Dielectric supported radio-frequency cavities

A device which improves the electrical and thermomechanical performance of an RF cavity, for example, in a disk-loaded accelerating structure. A washer made of polycrystalline diamond is brazed in the middle to a copper disk washer and at the outer edge to the plane wave transformer tank wall, thus dissipating heat from the copper disk to the outer tank wall while at the same time providing strong mechanical support to the metal disk. The washer structure eliminates the longitudinal connecting rods and cooling channels used in the currently available cavities, and as a result minimizes problems such as shunt impedance degradation and field distortion in the plane wave transformer, and mechanical deflection and uneven cooling of the disk assembly.

Method and apparatus for radio frequency cavity

In an electron accelerator, a conductive housing defines a cavity. Photoelectrons are emitted from a photocathode into the cavity when light is applied to the photocathode. Via an opening formed in a wall of the conductive housing, the photoelectrons are output to the outside of the cavity. Coolant is flowed through a flow path formed in the wall of the conductive housing, to suppress a temperature rise of the conductive housing. The wall of the conductive housing is made by a metal additive manufacturing technique in such a way as to produce a flow path that has a gentle trajectory without discontinuities in gradient.

Phase and frequency locked magnetron

A magnetron of improved performance capable of stabilizing the frequency and phase of magnetron output for use in particle accelerators and other applications. Thin variable-permeability blocks are attached inside the resonant anode structures of a standard magnetron design. A variable bias electromagnet, with field orthogonal in direction to the RF magnetic field, is used to vary the permeability of each block and therefore the resonant frequency of each anode structure.
