Methods and systems for slant compensation in handwriting and signature recognition

Various computer-implemented methods are provided. One method for signature recognition includes identifying a vertical element of a signature and determining a tilt angle of the vertical element. Tilt angle is defined by a line that is approximately parallel to the vertical element. In addition, the method includes determining a tilt factor. Tilt factor is defined as a horizontal offset between the tilt angle and a reference tilt as a function of distance from a signature baseline. The method further includes altering the signature using the tilt factor and comparing the altered signature to known signature(s) to determine if the altered signature matches one of the known signature(s). Another method includes altering the signature using a predetermined tilt factor and comparing the altered signature to known signature(s). If the altered signature does not match one of the known signature(s), these steps may be repeated with different predetermined tilt factors.

Font recognition and font similarity learning using a deep neural network

A convolutional neural network (CNN) is trained for font recognition and font similarity learning. In a training phase, text images with font labels are synthesized by introducing variances to minimize the gap between the training images and real-world text images. Training images are generated and input into the CNN. The output is fed into an N-way softmax function dependent on the number of fonts the CNN is being trained on, producing a distribution of classified text images over N class labels. In a testing phase, each test image is normalized in height and squeezed in aspect ratio resulting in a plurality of test patches. The CNN averages the probabilities of each test patch belonging to a set of fonts to obtain a classification. Feature representations may be extracted and utilized to define font similarity between fonts, which may be utilized in font suggestion, font browsing, or font recognition applications.

Method and system for accurately calculating latency variation on an end-to-end path in a network

A high-resolution, per-packet measurement tool for analyzing a computer network that operates by sending a predetermined number of packets from a sender machine to a receiver machine with measurement information inserted into the packet. The system kernel at the sending machine stamps a sequence number and the sender's local time into the data section of each packet. When packets arrive at the receiver machine, they are similarly stamped by the receiving machine's kernel with the receiving machine's local time. The maintained packet information serves as the basis for latency analysis. For example, one set of latencies can be obtained with QoS mechanisms turned on, and another set with QoS mechanisms turned off, whereby the benefits of the QoS mechanisms can be accurately determined. To analyze the latencies, the present invention normalizes each time and each latency into relative latency information. Clock skew and timer jumps may be handled as part of the normalization.

Zero Correlation Zone Based Preamble for Oversampled OFDM Networks in URWIN

In an oversampled orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) orthogonal network, the preamble used for time synchronization does not have an ideal autocorrelation function due to guard bands, which degrade the accuracy of symbol timing. Therefore, a zero-correlation-zone (ZCZ) based preamble is used for time synchronization. Across correlation function (CCF) used for time synchronization is forced to 0 within a certain region around a main lobe. The length of the ZCZ is guaranteed to be larger than a cyclic prefix length of OFDM data symbols synchronization accuracy.

Apparatus and method for maintaining consistent fluid velocity and homogeneity in a pipeline

A method and device for generating an ongoing consistent velocity within a pipeline flow in order to achieve fluid homogeneity prior to oil water measurement. A recirculation flow loop withdraws flow from a first point in a pipeline, accelerates that flow with a pump, and reinjects the outflow from the pump through turbulence inducing outlets at a second point in the pipeline upstream of the first flow withdrawal point. The increased turbulence and mixing of the fluid flowing in the pipeline enhances the homogeneity of the oil / water suspension. The more homogeneous fluid recirculating in the flow loop passes through a measurement probe of an oil / water detector, thus increasing the accuracy of the oil / water measurement of the fluid.

Switch mode power supply controllers

This invention relates to SMPS controllers employing primary side sensing. We describe a system for identifying a knee point in a sensing waveform, at which the output voltage of the SMPS may be sampled accurately on the primary side. The system identifies the knee point, broadly speaking, by tracking a portion of a power transformer voltage waveform, and samples the voltage waveform at the knee point to determine the SMPS output voltage. In preferred embodiments this technique is implemented using a circuit akin to a decaying peak detector, providing a timing signal indicating detection of the knee point. Sample / hold and error amplifier circuits may be employed to achieve output voltage regulation.
