The automatic generation method achieves automatic generation of the single line diagram of the distribution network above a certain scale, and simultaneously, the generated single line diagram is clearer and more attractive through the routing algorithm without overlap or intersection.

Stackable network unit including register for identifying trunk connection status of stacked units

In a stack of network units each includes a multiplicity of ports for receiving and forwarding addressed data packets and a forwarding engine which in response to address data selects at least one port for the forwarding of a data packet. A cascade connects the units and allows the transmission of a packet placed on said cascade by a unit to all the other units. Each unit is responsive to a packet received from the cascade to forward or discard the received packet according to predetermined forwarding rules. A trunk includes a respective port of each of some but not necessarily all the units. Each unit includes a 'trunk box member' register indicating which of the units has at least one port connected in the trunk When a first unit in the stack receives, at a port connected neither to the trunk nor the cascade, a packet destined for the trunk, the first unit directs that packet to a port connected to the trunk if the first unit has such a port and otherwise sends that packet to the cascade. When a second unit in the stack, having a port connected to the trunk, receives by way of the cascade from the first unit a packet destined for the trunk, the second unit determines with recourse to the forwarding rules, data identifying the first unit and the respective register whether to forward said packet to the trunk. The invention is particularly intended for use in stack-wide trunks operating according to 'local forwarding' and 'next-in-line' rules and allows units in the stack to be omitted from direct connection to the trunk.

Cascading optical multiplexing device

An optical multiplexing device is provided comprising multiple wavelength division multiplexers cascaded together. A first one of the wavelength division multiplexers has a common port and multiple optical ports which are optically coupled to the common port. The common port may be optically coupled to a trunk line of a system employing wavelength division multiplexing, for example, a fiber-optic telecommunication system employing 4, 8, 16 or other number of multiplexed channels. The optical ports include multiple channel ports, each of which is transparent to a corresponding wavelength sub-range and reflective of other wavelengths. The second wavelength division multiplexer has a common port optically coupled to one of the optical ports of the first wavelength division multiplexer. The second wavelength division multiplexer also has multiple optical ports which are optically coupled to its common port and include multiple wavelength-selective channel ports. A waveguide, such as a fiber-optic line, can optically connect the common port of the second wavelength division multiplexer to an optical port of the first wavelength division multiplexer. The cascaded WDMs each may be optically coupled to the output of a passive coupler and a housing may be provided defining an enclosed space in which the optical multiplexing device is mounted. Optionally, additional WDMs may be cascaded with the first two WDMs in a parallel or branched formation, an in-line formation or some combination. Preferably, the channels are interleaved, such that they are removed from the multiplexed signal in certain non-sequential order. The optical multiplexing device also may employ compound interleaving wherein adjacent channels are multiplexed by different ones of the cascaded WDMs. The optical multiplexing devices can operate to add signals, remove signals or a combination of both.

A transition device for an optical fiber connection system adapted to interconnect a trunk cable with a plurality of transceivers includes: a first set of at least four optical fibers, each of the optical fibers having a trunk end and a transceiver end; a single trunk end terminal having a plurality of trunk ports arranged in a first row, each port connected with a respective one of the set of optical fibers at its trunk end, wherein a first axis of symmetry divides the ports; and a plurality of transceiver end terminals, each of the transceiver end terminals having even numbers of transceiver ports, each of the transceiver ports receiving a respective one of the set of optical fibers at their transceiver ends. The arrangement of fibers received by each transceiver end terminal meet either of the following two conditions: (a) a first fiber originates from a first port in the trunk end terminal, and a second fiber originates from a second port in the trunk end terminal that is positioned at the mirror image location of the first port about the first axis of symmetry; or (b) each fiber is received in a first transceiver end terminal that has a corresponding second transceiver end terminal with the same number and arrangement of transceiver ports, and each fiber received in the first transceiver end terminal originates from a port in the trunk end terminal that has a mirror image port about the first axis of symmetry from which a fiber that is received in the second transceiver end terminal originates.
