Plant Genes Associated With Seed Oil Content And Methods Of Their Use

Cytochrome b5 (Cb5) is a haem-binding protein located in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and the outer mitochondrial membranes of higher eukaryotes. In higher plants, animals, and fungi, the ER resident Cb5 has been shown to play a role in desaturation of acyl CoA fatty acids. Higher plants Cb5 isoforms from plants such as soybean or Arabidopsis are capable of modulating omega-3 desaturation. Co-expression of certain Cb5 isoforms with FAD3 in a host plant results in increased production of seed oil content as well as altered ratio between different fatty acids. It is also disclosed here that overexpression of Yarrowia ACL enzymes in the plastids of a host plant helps boost the synthesis of acetyl CoA, which in turn, may lead to increased synthesis of fatty acids and enhanced oil accumulation in the seeds.

Motor vehicle

When cooling water temperature of the engine is not less than the water temperature threshold value, the target drive point of the engine is set based on the fuel economy optimized operation curve and the power demand of the engine, without allowing selection of the operation curve between the fuel economy optimized operation curve to drive the engine efficiently and the operation curve to drive the engine with less efficiency than the efficiency on the fuel economy optimized operation curve in at least a part of the operating area to avoid operation in the muffled area. Then, the engine is driven at the target drive point and the hybrid vehicle is driven with a torque corresponding to the torque demand. This effectively prevents the temperature rise in the cooling water for cooling of the engine due to increase in heat loss of the engine, and prevents overheating of the engine.

The invention relates to promoters of the genes glutamate dehydrogenase, beta-acetylhexosaminidase and gamma-actin and their use in systems of expression, secretion and anti-sense of filamentary fungi. The invention also relates to the use of the promoters of the genes which code: (I) glutamate dehydrogenase NADP depending (EC.1.4.1.4) of Penicillium chrysogenum, (II) gamma-N-actylhexosaminidase (EC.3.2.1.52) of Penicillium chrysogenum and (III) gamma-actin of Penicillium chrysogenum and Acrimonium chrysogenum, which can be used for the construction of potent vectors of expression and secretion useful both for P. chrysogenum and for A. chrysogenum and related species. These promoters can also be used for blocking the genic expression through anti-sense construction. Under the control of the above mentioned promoters, it is possible to conduct the expression of other genes in filamentary fungi, thereby increasing the production of antibiotics and / or proteins inherent to the same.

Cooperative chemical adsorption of acid gases in functionalized metal-organic frameworks

A system and method for acid gas separations using porous frameworks of metal atoms coordinatively bound to polytopic linkers that are functionalized with basic nitrogen ligands that expose nitrogen atoms to the pore volumes forming adsorption sites. Adjacent basic nitrogen ligands on the metal-organic framework can form an ammonium from one ligand and a carbamate from the other. The formation of one ammonium carbamate pair influences the formation of ammonium carbamate on adjacent adsorption sites. Adsorption of acid gas at the adsorption sites form covalently linked aggregates of more than one ammonium carbamate ion pair. The acid gas adsorption isotherm can be tuned to match the step position with the partial pressure of acid gas in the gas mixture stream through manipulation of the metal-ligand bond strength by selection of the ligand, metal and polytopic linker materials.

Enhancement of electron scavenging by water-soluble fullerenes

Polyhydroxyfullerenes (PHFs) having enhanced electron scavenging capabilities have a ratio of non-hydroxyl functional groups to hydroxyl functional groups that is less than or equal to 0.3. When combined with a semiconductor photocatalyst, such as titanium dioxide nanoparticles, the PHFs provide a photocatalyst for degradation of chemical and biological contaminates with an efficiency of at least twice that of titanium dioxide nanoparticles free of PHFs. The PRFs are included in these catalysts at a weight ratio to titanium dioxide of about 0.001 to about 0.003, whereas significantly lower and higher ratios do not achieve the highly improved photodegradation capability. PHFs outside of the desired structure are shown to be of little value for photodegradation, and can be inhibiting to the photocatalytic activity of TiO2. The enhanced electron scavenging PHFs can be employed as a component of materials for solar cells, field effect transistors, and radical scavengers.

Method and apparatus for warming and storage of cold fluids

Stranded natural gas is sometimes liquefied and sent to other countries that can use the gas in a transport ship. Conventional receiving terminals use large cryogenic storage tanks to hold the liquefied natural gas (LNG) after it has been offloaded from the ship. The present invention eliminates the need for the conventional cryogenic storage tanks and instead uses uncompensated salt caverns to store the product. The present invention can use a special heat exchanger, referred to as a Bishop Process heat exchanger, to warm the LNG prior to storage in the salt caverns or the invention can use conventional vaporizing systems some of which may be reinforced and strengthened to accommodate higher operating pressures. In one embodiment, the LNG is pumped to higher pressures and converted to dense phase natural gas prior to being transferred into the heat exchanger and the uncompensated salt caverns.

Method Of Estimating Equivalent Radar Cross Section On The Basis Of Near-Field Measurements

A method for estimating the equivalent radar cross section (RCS) of an object using near-field measurements. The method using a diffraction model of the object in far field and a diffraction model in near field. These models make it possible to determine respectively bases adapted to said object in far field and in near field. The measurement vector is first of all projected onto the base adapted in near field and the components obtained are transformed into components on the base in far field. The vector obtained is then returned into the analysis base of the RCS in order to provide a reconstructed vector. The components of the reconstructed vector are next used for calculating the RCS.

HIV type 1 group o reverse transcriptases that are active at high temperatures

The present invention falls within the field of biotechnology. More specifically, the invention relates to reverse transcriptases expressed and purified in bacteria and having the amino acid sequence of the reverse transcriptase of a human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) group O, modified at positions 358, 359 and 360; and variants of this enzyme that contain additional changes at positions 355 and 357 or at 478 or position 69 (in this case accompanied by an insertion of two amino acids). These polymerases have greater activity than the non-mutated enzyme at high temperatures (above 60° C.). In addition, they retain the capacity for DNA synthesis at temperatures greater than 70° C. Moreover, the copying fidelity of these enzymes is not significantly different from that of the non-mutated reverse transcriptase.
