Digital camera device providing improved methodology for rapidly taking successive pictures

An in-camera two-stage compression implementation is described that reduces the latency between snapshots to a fraction of that otherwise required by other systems that either process complete compression following each snapshot or that incorporate heavy, bulky, and expensive RAM hardware capable of maintaining several raw luminosity records (unprocessed file containing a digital image). In the 1st stage compression the raw luminosity record is quickly, yet partially, compressed to available RAM buffer space to allow a user to expeditiously capture a succeeding image. When the higher-priority processes, the user shooting pictures, and stage one compression subside, a 2nd stage compression, which is slower but more effective, decompresses the earlier partially-compressed images, and re-compresses them for saving in flash memory until they are distributed to a remote platform to be finally converted to the JPEG2000 format.

Communication signal equalization systems and methods

Communication signal equalization methods and systems are disclosed. A CDMA signal having a data portion and a known portion including a known or repeated data sequence and received over a multipath communication channel represents a linear convolution between the multipath channel and a transmitted CDMA signal. A channel estimate of the communication channel is determined from the known portion, and the CDMA signal is translated into a new CDMA signal which is a cyclic convolution with the channel estimate. A frequency domain representation of the new CDMA signal is adjusted using the channel estimate to produce a frequency domain representation of an equalized signal.

Quantized precoding over a set of parallel channels

Methods and apparatus are disclosed for applying successive multi-rank beamforming strategies (e.g., successive preceding strategies) for the design of precoders over a set of parallel channels. Successive beamforming is applied to a narrow band channel model and is also applied for finer quantization of a single beamforming vector (e.g., recursive beamforming). A first embodiment provides the optimal approach with high complexity. An alternative embodiment provides successive beamforming for near optimal preceding selection with medium complexity. A low complexity method for precoder selection is also provided wherein a channel representative matrix for the set of parallel channels is determined and successive beamforming on the calculated channel representative is applied.

Single supply sub VDD bit-line precharge SRAM and method for level shifting

A reduced bitline precharge level has been found to increase the SRAM Beta ratio, thus improving the stability margin. The precharge level is also supplied to Sense amplifier, write driver, and source voltages for control signals. In the sense amplifier, the lower precharge voltage compensates for performance loss in the bit-cell by operating global data-line drivers with increased overdrive. In the write driver, the reduced voltage improves the Bitline discharge rate, improves the efficiency of the negative boost write assist, and decreases the reliability exposure of transistors in the write path from negative boost circuit.

Accessing memory units in a data processing apparatus

The present invention relates to a technique for accessing memory units in a data processing apparatus. The data processing apparatus comprises of plurality of memory units for storing data values, a processor core for issuing an access request specifying an access to be made to the memory units in relation to a data value, and a memory controller for performing the access specified by the access request. Attribute generation logic is provided for determining from the access request one or more predetermined attributes verifying which of the memory units should be used when performing the access. However, the memory controller does not wait until such determination has been performed by the attribute generation logic before beginning the access. Instead, prediction logic is arranged to predict the one or more predetermined attributes, and clock generation logic is responsive to the predictive predetermined attributes from the prediction logic to select which one of the memory units is to be clocked during performance of the access, and to issue a clock signal to that memory unit. Checking logic is then provided to determine whether the predetermined attributes generated by the attribute generation logic agree with the predicted predetermined attributes, and if not, to reinitiate the access, in which event the clock generation logic is arranged to reselect one of the memory units using the predetermined attributes as determined by the attribute generation logic. This approach enables high speed processing of access requests, whilst achieving significant power savings over prior art systems where multiple memory units are clocked speculatively in parallel.
