Method and apparatus for multiplexing audio program channels from one or more received broadcast streams to provide a playlist style listening experience to users

A method and apparatus are provided for generating a personalized radio channel playlist by time division multiplexing songs from multiple received channels from one or more broadcast source streams in a queue. Users can specify favorite channels for building their personal playlists, or multiple default playlist channels can be provided by genre. Navigation tools permit users to see upcoming songs in their playlist queue and skip ahead and backward. Thumbs up / down buttons on the radio receiver permit entering a song or artist being played back into a favorites list that is used to search all channels for matches or a banned list used to block songs from future playlists. If matches are found, the channel carrying the favorite is extracted and added to the playlist. Channel searching for matches involves monitoring real-time song and artist labels for all channels carried in a separate data channel (e.g., Broadcast Information Channel (BIC)). Segments on the playlist are dynamically truncated to reduce the average time each segment is played to facilitate preview of playlist segments. Preview times can vary depending on the size of the playlist or number of channels used. During a preview of a segment, users can opt to listen to the full song or back up in the playlist to listen to a previous song. Connectivity options and web interfaces are provided to facilitate transfer and sharing of customization parameters for personalized radio configuration.

Method and system for multi-cell interference reduction in a wireless communication system

A method and system for multi-cell interference reduction in a wireless communication system is disclosed. The present disclosure describes a new method and system for accurately detecting the characteristics of the interfering signals from relevant sources such as neighboring co-channel cells and other persistent interference sources. In order to better estimate the interfering signals, a base station designates a small inactive window in the transmit frame for a cell during which the communications between the base station and its terminals are reduced while every other communication pursues. As such, the interfering signals can be well exposed and the characteristics can be accurately detected. Based on the detected characteristics of the interfering signals, the base station can specifically design beam forming mechanism or other means to cancel or minimize the impact of such interference during regular communications.

Method and system for interference assessment and reduction in a wireless communication system

A method and system is disclosed for reducing interference in a wireless communication system utilizing an antenna array. The antenna array uses one or more signal channels for communicating with one or more mobile terminals. First, at least one channel is assigned as an empty channel in which no desired signal is carried so as to provide a representation of all relevant interference. Since the spatial characteristics of the empty channel and the regular signal channels should be very similar, the spatial signature of the signal channels is analyzed based on the interference received on the empty channel and the desired signals received on at least one signal channel. The analyzed spatial signature is then used for reducing the interference on all signal channels.

Method and system to scan data from a system that supports deduplication

An interface is disclosed that makes information obtained from a file deduplication process available to an application for the efficient operation thereof. A data deduplication repository is scanned to determine a plurality of file segments and respective checksum values associated with the segments. A data structure is generated that allows shared segments to be identified by indexing using a common checksum value. The segments also indicate the file to which they belong and may also include a timestamp value. This data structure is updated as files are modified, etc. The data structure is accessible to an application program so that the application program can readily determine which segments are shared between multiple files. With this information, the application can efficiently process the segment once rather than multiple times. Timestamps can be used by the application to efficiently identify only those segments that were accessed after a given time.
