Systems and methods for switching between autonomous and manual operation of a vehicle

Systems and methods for switching between autonomous and manual operation of a vehicle are described. In one embodiment, there is a mechanical control system that receives manual inputs from a mechanical operation member to operate the vehicle in manual mode. There is further an actuator that receives autonomous control signals generated by a controller. When the actuator is engaged, it operates the vehicle in an autonomous mode, and when disengaged, it operates the vehicle in manual mode. In another embodiment, there is an E-Stop system to disengage systems that cause the vehicle to move, such as the engine, while still leaving power in the systems that do not cause the vehicle to move. There is a method for autonomous mode starting of a vehicle, comprising receiving a signal indicating autonomous mode, determining that a parking brake lever is set and the brakes are engaged, disengaging the brakes while maintaining the lever in the set position, and engaging in autonomous mode. There is a safety system with a mechanical bias to suppress moveable systems of the vehicle, comprising a clutch that releases the mechanical bias to permit movement of the moveable system when the clutch is engaged. In another embodiment a system comprises a mechanical linkage with a restoration member that permits control of an operation system of the vehicle by a remote operation member when the restoration member is engaged. There is also an actuator that prohibits control of the operation system by the remote operation member when the actuator is engaged.

Radial blower, particularly for heating and air conditioning systems in automobiles

A radial blower, particularly for heating and air-conditioning systems for automobiles, has a spiral blower housing that is provided with an air intake (5) in a housing lateral wall and with an air outlet out of the spiral housing. A blower drive motor for a fan wheel is mounted to the housing with the fan wheel positioned in the spiral housing to face the air intake (5). The fan wheel has a fan ring with fan blades and a hub. The fan ring and the hub are connected to each other by a shell shaped vaulted or dished fan disk, which at least partly surrounds the drive motor. Fan disk openings (43) permit at least a portion of cooling air flowing through the drive motor to be discharged through the disk openings (43) into a blower air discharge chamber (23) in the spiral housing. The openings in the fan disk are formed to generate a negative pressure at these openings on a fan disk surface facing away from the drive motor whereby airflow through the motor is increased because the negative pressure draws more cooling air through the motor. The suction is further increased by streamlined hoods (61) covering part of the fan disk openings on the disk surface facing away from the motor. The increased airflow through the drive motor increases the service life of the blower and of the motor.

Downhole sorption cooling and heating in wireline logging and monitoring while drilling

A cooling system in which an electronic or other component is cooled by using one or more solid sources of liquid vapor in conjunction with one or more high-temperature vapor sorbents or desiccants that effectively transfer heat from the component to the fluid in the wellbore. The latent heats associated with phase changes and dehydration of a hydrate can provide substantial cooling capacity per unit volume of hydrate, which is particularly important in those applications where space is limited. According to the present invention, a sorption cooling and heating system is provided for use in a well, such as downhole tool which is in a drill string through which a drilling fluid flows, or in a downhole tool, which is on a wireline. Electronics, sensors, or clocks adjacent to a hydrate are not only kept cool by the heat sinking effect of hydrate phase changes and evaporation of water that is released but, during phase changes, they are being kept at a constant temperature for extended periods of time, which further improves their stability. Furthermore, such a system can also be used to heat a sample chamber or other component by placing it adjacent to the high-temperature sorbent or desiccant that heats up as it adsorbs the water vapor that was released by a low-temperature hydrate or desiccant during dehydration.

Arrangement for outboard motor

An outboard motor comprises an internal combustion engine and a protective cowling that surrounds the engine. The cowling comprises at least an upper portion and a lower portion. The engine comprises a cylinder block that defines a cylinder bore. A cylinder head member is fixed at one end of the cylinder block and encloses one end of the cylinder bore. A crankcase member is fixed at the other end of the cylinder block and encloses the other end of the cylinder bore. The crankcase member forms a crankcase chamber. A piston is positioned within the cylinder bore. A crankshaft is rotably journaled in the crankcase chamber and is connected to the piston. The piston, the cylinder bore and the cylinder head together define a combustion chamber. The cylinder block, the cylinder head member and the crankcase member together defining an engine body. A first air intake conduit communicates with the engine and extends generally along a side of the engine body. The first air intake conduit communicates with an intake silencer located proximate the crankcase member. The engine further comprises a starter motor, an electronic control unit and a fuel supply system. The fuel supply system comprises a vapor separator and a fuel injector. The starter motor, the electronic control unit, the vapor separator and the fuel injectors are located in a space defined between the intake silencer, the first air intake conduit and the engine body.
