System and method for creating a proximity map of plurality of living beings and objects

A proximity network map defines who and what objects have come in contact of each other including location and time. This map selects the list people who have come in contact with known infected people based on contagious disease epidemiology criteria to control its spread, or to prevent radiation poisoning, limit bio-chemicals exposure, etc. These people then undergo testing and quarantine procedures. It monitors hygiene practices and reduces nosocomial infections in hospitals and mitigates the pandemic flu threat by controlling contamination. It controls people interaction, information flow in a high security environment, control crime or gang activities. Each person or object carrying a proximity-sensing unit with unique ID records all units it encountered over a period of time. This information is stored with time stamp in a relational database and transferred to network servers. The databases are then replication throughout via a central web database server for retrieval and analysis.

Corrosion inhibitors in breakable microcapsules to passivate scratched metals

ActiveUS20110064941A1Promoting passivating layer formationUnwanted color changeLayered productsPretreated surfacesAmbient waterVolatile corrosion inhibitor
Microencapsulated chemical(s), as water-soluble solid particles, are embedded in at least one the paint layers on the surface of a magnesium article used in an automobile. If the protective paint film is scratched or otherwise mechanically disturbed to expose the surface of the magnesium article the capsules will be ruptured. This will expose the encapsulated chemical(s) to ambient water enabling them to dissolve and form an aqueous solution capable of reacting with the exposed magnesium to form a protective passivating layer on the exposed magnesium to resist corrosion. In a second embodiment the encapsulated chemicals include a deliquescing compound for extraction of moisture from the atmosphere sufficient to induce dissolution of the passivating layer-forming chemical(s) and trigger the formation of the passivating layer in the absence of ambient water.

Exposure monitoring

A filter medium of an air purifying respirator captures one or more substances from the air in a worker's environment as the worked breathes. Air contaminants captured by the respirator filter media can be subsequently analyzed and measured. An air flow meter placed at an air channel of the respirator measures air flow and / or total air volume inspired by the worker wearing the respirator. Personal chemical exposure of the worker can be assessed from the filter media measurements and air flow data.

Method and apparatus for continuous gas monitoring using micro-colorimetric sensing and optical tracking of color spatial distribution

A micro-colorimetric sensor for sensing target chemicals that converts time sequence information into a spatial distribution of color. By tracking the spatial color distribution, chemical exposure over time is thus detected, which overcomes the limitation of traditional colorimetric sensors. A porous media is coated on a top surface of the substrate. Multiple sensing chemicals are fused in parallel linear channels into the porous media coating. A plate is affixed over the substrate top surface to cover the plurality of parallel linear channels. An air sample is diffused along the porous media to get a clear pattern of spatial color distribution and color images are captured. Optical parameters like gradient of spatial color distribution, intensity, and absorbance, etc., can be tracked to calculate analytes concentrations.

Binary Optical Compound and Method of Manufacture

A bacteriorhodopsin based chemical sensing architecture based upon the collective response of bacteriorhodopsin and a number of its mutants; the wild type protein and a selection of genetically-engineered variants was able to respond differentially to a selection of amines. The observable response to the presence of a target chemical was manifested through a modulation of bacteriorhodopsin's photokinetic properties, which are monitored through pump-probe techniques using a custom prototype flash photolysis system. Differential responsivity exists at two levels; (1) bacteriorhodopsin proteins (wild-type and genetically-engineered variants) respond differentially upon exposure of a target chemical, and (2) the response pattern exhibited by the proteins differs from chemical to chemical. This dichotomy forms the basis for a BR-mediated chemical sensing technology that is highly sensitive and selective and may therefore discriminate between different chemicals.

Sealed cleaner-box with magnetically coupled actuator pucks

A cleaning system which includes an enclosure and having a door with a transparent window. The door is opened and closed to load and unload products to be cleaned. An operator puck on the outside of the enclosure couples magnetically to another actuator puck on the inside of the enclosure. This coupling allows an operator to move and direct the inside puck to actuate spray or air blast functions, without opening the enclosure. The outside operator puck includes one or more switches which turn on the various electronic components such as the liquid pump, light, or air blast valve. The cleaning system enables a user to efficiently direct cleaning action to parts inside to minimize the cleaning time, and to prevent exposure of chemicals. The cleaning fluid is cycled out of the enclosure continuously, and into a “trap” box, through a pump and back into the cleaner box in a closed loop cycle. This system reduces exposure of users to cleaning chemicals and their vapors prevent the chemicals from being deposited into the environment.
