A monitor for and a method of examining packets passing through a connection point on a computer network. Each packets conforms to one or more protocols. The method includes receiving a packet from a packet acquisition device and performing one or more parsing / extraction operations on the packet to create a parser record comprising a function of selected portions of the packet. The parsing / extraction operations depend on one or more of the protocols to which the packet conforms. The method further includes looking up a flow-entry database containing flow-entries for previously encountered conversational flows. The lookup uses the selected packet portions and determining if the packet is of an existing flow. If the packet is of an existing flow, the method classifies the packet as belonging to the found existing flow, and if the packet is of a new flow, the method stores a new flow-entry for the new flow in the flow-entry database, including identifying information for future packets to be identified with the new flow-entry. For the packet of an existing flow, the method updates the flow-entry of the existing flow. Such updating may include storing one or more statistical measures. Any stage of a flow, state is maintained, and the method performs any state processing for an identified state to further the process of identifying the flow. The method thus examines each and every packet passing through the connection point in real time until the application program associated with the conversational flow is determined.

Shared resources in a multi manager environment

A method is described for controlling a shared resource for interconnecting two or more network domains being controlled by different Managers. Multiple Managers control the shared resource for the configuration of a segment of a connection between two different domains and the Managers cooperate in order to control dynamically the shared resource. Different network domains can be connected by a network element or by a link between different network elements belonging to the different network domains. In the first case the shared resource is a connection matrix of the network element, in the second case the shared resource includes the connection matrixes of the different network elements and the link between the network elements. A shared connection matrix includes some connection points for performing the cross-connections within the matrix: some connection points are controlled by one Manager, other connection points are controlled by another Manager and some shared connection points are controlled by both Managers. Multiple Managers control the shared resource by reading and writing information stored into a management information base, according to an explicit or implicit mode, or alternatevely by transmitting messages in the network directly between the Managers, according to a signalling protocol.

Approach for routing an integrated circuit

A computer-implemented approach for routing an integrated circuit using non-orthogonal routing is accomplished during two phases: a global routing phase and a detailed routing phase. During global routing, routing indicators, in the form of hint polygons, are added to the integrated circuit layout and strategy lists, that include bias directions and straying limits, are generated for the new wires to be added. The hint polygons and strategy lists are used during detailed routing to aid in placing the new wires. If obstacle conflicts or insufficient space problems prevent the detailed routing of a new wire, then an obstacle resolution portion of global routing is used to resolve the obstacle conflict and/or provide additional space in the integrated circuit layout to route the new wires. Obstacle resolution includes, without limitation, moving or changing layout geometry, changing or add hint polygons, changing the routing strategy by changing the bias direction and/or adjusting straying limits, inserting one or more layer changes, instructing the detailed router to backup and insert a bend, ripping-up and rerouting one or more wires, or routing the wire from the destination connection point. Also, a tight routing approach may be employed to accommodate constructing routing paths in tight layout areas. Object specific design rule checks are employed to increase routing flexibility optimize routing performance. “On-the-fly” design rule checks are performed on portions of routing paths as the routing paths are being constructed.

Common Information Model for Web Service for Management with Aspect and Dynamic Patterns for Real-Time System Management

A system and method is disclosed for reducing the effects of cross-profile crosscutting concerns to enable just-in-time configuration updates and real-time adaptation in the Common Information Model (CIM). The CIM object model is thereby allowed to adapt to dynamic role, resource, or service changes such as logging, debugging, security or quality of service (QOS). An aspect syntactic analyzer is implemented to extend a CIM Managed Object Format (MOF) to implement aspect and dynamic pattern extensions. CIM MOF extensions comprise an Aspect Oriented Programming (AOP) join point. The join point can be implemented as an association class referencing two classes or as a method call of a first class to a property of a second class. The two classes may reside in the same or different CIM profiles. A CIM repository is accessed by a CIM Object Manager (CIMOM) comprising an aspect weaver implemented to enable AOP operations between CIM clients and data providers. The CIM providers comprise an Aspect Semantic Analyzer to similarly enable AOP operations comprising CIM MOF aspect and dynamic pattern extensions. As a result, cross-profile crosscutting concerns are reduced, thereby allowing dynamic changes in the CIM model and enabling just-in-time configuration changes and real-time environment adaptation.
