Electromagnetic method for determining dip angles independent of mud type and borehole environment

A method employs an apparatus for generating a directional signal associated with the electromagnetic energy response of a subsurface formation. The method is useful to derive both the strike angle of formation boundary and the relative dip. The true dip and azimuth can be computed from the relative dip information coupled with borehole orientation. Other applications of the method are also described.

Modular personal defense device

The modular personal defense device is a hard, rigid, elongate baton that is capable of imparting impact force to an assailant or threat. The exterior may include a series of strengthening ribs, which may also impart further damage to an assailant. The interior is an essentially hollow cylinder configured to accept one of a series of modules. The modules are essentially externally physically identical, but include different electronic circuitry and mechanisms to provide different functions. A silicone controlled rectifier (SCR) electronic stun circuit is provided by one module, for imparting a stunning electrical shock and dissuading an assailant(s) due to the electrical arc produced. Another module produces an extremely bright light either continuously or in rapid pulses, to blind and disorient an assailant. Yet another module produces a piercing sound, while still other modules may be fitted axially or radially to the device to transmit an irritant spray.

On-demand cleanup system

An on-demand cleanup application running locally removes malware and its effects from a computer system. A virus scan engine scans the computer system to identify any malicious files. A system information collector tool executes to create a log file containing detailed information about the computer system and the location of all files. Identified malicious files are matched against the log file to determine the extent of the infection by the malicious files. Computer code is generated using a blank cleanup template to automatically delete the malicious files and their effects in the computer system and placed into a final cleanup template. The cleanup template is executed by a cleanup engine in order to remove the malware and its effects from the computer. A CRC tool is used to positively identify files that are to be deleted.

Power-Saving Wireless Input Device and System

A power-saving wireless input device and an associated system are included. The wireless input device comprises an antenna, an RFID transponder, an energy-storing unit, and a sensing unit. The RFID transponder receives an AC signal via the antenna, and converts the AC signal into a DC signal. The energy-storing unit receives the DC signal for charging. The sensing unit, which is powered by the energy-storing unit, generates an input signal to the RFID transponder. The RFID transponder demodulates the AC signal to generate a request signal, and performs load modulation according to the input signal to generate a reply signal in response to the request signal. Segmented piston rod for a medication delivery device

A segmented piston rod for an injection device includes multiple segments joined together via a hinge located on one side of each segment. The piston rod can be bent in one direction by articulating subsequent hinges while an axial force can be transmitted by the segmented piston rod to the stopper when the subsequent hinges are closed and the segments abut each other opposite to the one side of the hinge. The segmented piston rod is secured against rotation relative to the housing around the longitudinal axis of the segmented piston rod. The segmented piston rod has a last element which abuts the stopper in the reservoir and a first segment which is opposite to the last segment. The first segment is includes an internal thread matching an external thread of a drive sleeve and rotation of the drive sleeve advances the piston rod towards the stopper of the reservoir.
