The invention discloses a metal shell welding method which is suitable for a lithium battery shell. The metal shell welding method comprises the steps of laminating and stacking an upper metal shell and a lower metal shell on a clamp base, and pressing the upper metal shell and the lower metal shell by a clamp pressing block, wherein the flatness of the binding surface of the clamp pressing block and the clamp base is less than 0.05 mm; and scanning the surface of the metal upper shell along the welding track by adopting a nanosecond laser to form a welding seam to connect the metal upper shell and the metal lower shell. According to the metal shell welding method, the flatness of the binding surface of the clamp pressing block and the clamp base is 0.05 mm or less, the binding degree of the clamp and the upper metal shell and the lower metal shell is improved, meanwhile, the nanosecond laser is adopted for welding, compared with a quasi-continuous laser, the advantages of being high in pulse frequency, concentrated in energy density, small in heat affected zone and the like are achieved, the phenomena of tilting, deformation and the like of the metal shell in the welding process are reduced, and the sealing performance of the metal shell is improved.
