Deposition of calcium-phosphate (CaP) and calcium-phosphate with bone morphogenic protein (CaP+BMP) coatings on metallic and polymeric surfaces

The invention is a medical implantable device which is coated by the method according to the invention. The surface of the substrate used for the implantable device, in the raw condition, following a cleaning regime and physiochemical pretreatments, is coated using a biomimetic process in a supersaturated calcium phosphate solution (SCPS) to obtain the desired coating coverage and morphology maintaining a ratio of calcium to phosphorus pH, as well as solution temperature plays a major role in yielding precipitation of the proper phase of CaP so that composition, morphologies, crystal structures, and solubility characteristics are optimal for the deposition process. The biomimetic coating adds the attribute of osteoconductivity to the implant device. To maximize bone growth, the implant must also induce bone growth, or possess the attribute of osteoinductivity. This attribute is acquired by the use of therapeutic agents, i.e. bone morphogenic proteins (BMP), growth factors, stem cells, etc. The preparation of the SCPS solution is slightly altered so that during the immersion of the implant in the SCPS, the therapeutic agents are co-precipitated and bonded with the CaP directly on the underlying surface of the implant device. A final dipping process into a BMP solution provides an initial burst of cellular activity. For delivering stem and / or progenitor cell, after drying the dipped solution of BMP, the cells are cultured on the surface of the implant.

Non-volatile memory architecture to improve read performance

A memory cell array is physically divided into an even number of sectors, with each pair of sectors sharing read circuitry. The outputs of the shared read circuitry are commonly connected to form data lines spanning the height of the array, which are input to global sense amplifiers. A two-stage sensing scheme is employed, with first stage and global sense amplifiers. The driving capability of the first stage sense amplifier can be used to decrease the time to charge or discharge the data lines, which reduces the total signal development time and consequently improves read performance. Granularity of the array can be adjusted by dividing groups and sub-groups of memory cells within a sector accordingly. In a read operation, the bit line in the opposite sector at the same column location is used as reference bit line, which greatly improves matching of bit line loading for the sensing.

Rapid gas hydrate formation process

The disclosure provides a method and apparatus for forming gas hydrates from a two-phase mixture of water and a hydrate forming gas. The two-phase mixture is created in a mixing zone which may be wholly included within the body of a spray nozzle. The two-phase mixture is subsequently sprayed into a reaction zone, where the reaction zone is under pressure and temperature conditions suitable for formation of the gas hydrate. The reaction zone pressure is less than the mixing zone pressure so that expansion of the hydrate-forming gas in the mixture provides a degree of cooling by the Joule-Thompson effect and provides more intimate mixing between the water and the hydrate-forming gas. The result of the process is the formation of gas hydrates continuously and with a greatly reduced induction time. An apparatus for conduct of the method is further provided.

Active sensing method based on spectral correlation for cognitive radio systems

A design of cognitive radio (CR) signal structure which based on the spectral correlation can be used for active sensing. In this signal structure, the known pilots used for the primary users (PUs) are duplicated and reallocated in the CR transmission signal properly. With this CR signal structure, the received signal of spectrum sensors will become correlated on the subcarriers when PU reoccupation occurs while the CR transmission is active, and thus PU activities can easily be detected by computing the spectral correlation function. As compare with the traditional cyclostationary feature detection scheme, this method can enhance the active sensing performance while remaining the service quality of the CR system, achieving better detection performance in the same detection time, reducing sensing time (about 1 / 10 of the traditional sensing time), and still reaching the satisfactory outcome even in the circumstances of low SNR and SINR.
