The present invention provides a method, system and apparatus for a time stamped visual motion sensor that provides a compact pixel size, higher speed motion detection and accuracy in velocity computation, high resolution, low power integration and reduces the data transfer and computation load of the following digital processor. The present invention provides a visual motion sensor cell that includes a photosensor, an edge detector connected to the photosensor and a time stamp component connected to the edge detector. The edge detector receives inputs from the photosensor and generates a pulse when a moving edge is detected. The time stamp component tracks a time signal and samples a time voltage when the moving edge is detected. The sampled time voltage can be stored until the sampled time voltage is read. In addition, the edge detector can be connected to one or more neighboring photosensors to improve sensitivity and robustness.

System and method for intrusion detection using a time domain radar array

A system and method for highly selective intrusion detection using a sparse array of ultra wideband (UWB) radars. Two or more UWB radars are arranged in a sparse array around an area to be protected. Each UWB radar transmits ultra wideband pulses that illuminate the area to be protected. Signal return data is processed to determine, among other things, whether an alarm condition has been triggered. High resolution radar images are formed that give an accurate picture of the area to be protected. This image is used to detect motion in a highly selective manner and to track moving objects within the protected area. Motion can be distinguished based on criteria appropriate to the environment in which the intrusion detection system operates.

Methods and apparatus for simulating dental procedures and for training dental students

A training system using haptically enhanced simulations of dental procedures to provide the sensorimotor involvement needed for dental training. To provide touch feedback in combination with a realistic visual experience, the system integrates a haptic stylus interface for simulating the movement and feel of the tool-tip with a three-dimensional, stereoscopic display. The haptic stylus enables the dental student to orient and operate simulated dental tools. Working on a virtual model viewed in a stereo display, dental students can use a simulated pick to probe a tooth, or a simulated drill to prepare a tooth for cavity repair. The touch feedback is simulated by representing these dental instruments as force-to-a-point tools which map to haptic simulation procedures executed on a computer workstation that also provides the visual display.
