The image portion to be inserted is then blended into the destination image in dependence on the image portion to be replaced and its associated characteristics (160). Four-stroke internal combustion engine with recuperator in cylinder head

A recuperating four-stroke internal combustion engine obtains improves Carnot efficiency by use of a new and novel cylinder head which captures thermal energy normally thrown away in the exhaust and re-introduces it to the working cycle. This result, long sought by others, has been achieved by incorporating within the head a compact internal recuperative heat exchanger in series with a combustion chamber or pre-chamber. A recuperator-protecting valve segregates the recuperator from hot combustion gases until the gases reach maximum expansion in the cylinder. Recuperators of both common-duct and seperated-duct design are described, the separated duct recuperator permitting higher recuperator temperature and increased efficiency and a reduction in the number of valves necessary to control gas flow. A preferred embodiment employs four valves per cylinder unit, a separated duct recuperator, and an insulating liner that surrounds both the combustion chamber and the recuperator. A similar prototype recuperative engine has demonstrated that recuperation can reduce exhaust temperature as much as 600° Rankine below that attainable in an equivalent Otto Cycle engine.

The impedance sensor circuit further is operated by supplying voltage signals over the common addressing line to effect both a reset operation and an operation for selecting a row in the array to be sensed. The circuitry isolates the array element from the actuation voltage during operating the impedance sensor circuit.

A fluidized-bed reactor for producing hydrogen from methane by steam reforming includes a flow splitter that splits a dense-phase flow of a gas having entrained calcium oxide particles into a plurality of equal flow streams. The reactor also incorporates an orifice plate having at least one high-velocity, rocket-style impinging injector for injecting reactants into the reactor bed. The injector includes a central orifice extending perpendicularly through the plate, and one or more adjacent peripheral orifices that extend through the plate at such an angle that respective streams of reactants injected into the reactor bed through the peripheral orifices impinge on a stream of reactants injected vertically into the reactor bed through the central orifice. The injector cooperates with adjacent base-bleed orifices in the plate to provide a uniform distribution and rapid mixing of the calcium oxide particles with a steam / methane gas mixture across the entire bottom of the reactor bed.

An improved method of controlling air pollution, a combustion gas is passed through a solution of an alkaline-earth metal sulfide and a redox buffer (e.g., a mono alkaline-earth metal phosphate salt), preferably but not essentially in combination with an alkaline-earth metal carbonate FGD system. The reagents are provided in a fully soluble form enabling low cost application and retrofitting of existing facilities whilst also including alkaline-earth bases salts, which advantageously afford stability to the process product. The reagents co-precipitate when the solution achieves a pH of 4.5 to 6.5 such as is encountered in the acidic environment in conduits that carry combustion flue gases.

The invention discloses a method and a system thereof for oxygen-enriched flameless combustion of coal powder. By adopting the method, the stability, burn-off rate and radiative heat transfer of combustion can be improved through flameless combustion on the basis of enriching CO2 during oxygen-enriched combustion. High-temperature flue gas generated by the oxygen-enriched combustion is injected into a hearth in the form of high-speed jet flow through a direct-current flameless burner, and quick and uniform mixing of heat and quality in the hearth can be realized through high-speed jet flow entrainment. The system comprises an oxygen injection system, and a primary air oxygen-injection point is positioned between a circulating fan and a flow regulating valve; a secondary air oxygen-injection point is positioned between a booster fan and a hearth outlet; a primary air pipe of the direct-current flameless burner is positioned in the center, and a secondary air pipe is parallel to the primary air pipe and is circularly arranged around the primary air pipe; the booster fan with a high-pressure head is arranged on a secondary air duct, and secondary air is boosted and speeded up and then enters the hearth in the form of the high-speed jet flow. The heat utilization ratio of the method and the system can be improved by 10-25%, and the generation of NOX can be reduced by 15-40%.

The first element is a sample holder in which are stored the several reagents need for quantification of target molecules. The onboard storage of reagents in a water soluble plastic obviates the need for purchase, storage, measuring and mixing of the required reagents prior to analyses. The second part of the invention is a compact hand-held analyzer made of modern miniature optical components, into which the holder is inserted right after it is loaded with a sample by capillary action. The combination of the holder and analyzer permits analyses that are ten times faster than those done with current analyzers, and equally accurate. Analyses can be performed by diverse people, who require only a few minutes of training in the use of the entire invention.

A novel electrokinetic instability (EKI) micromixer and method takes advantage of the EKI to effect active rapid stirring of confluent microstreams of biomolecules without moving parts or complex microfabrication processes. The EKI is induced using an alternating current (A / C) electric field. Within seconds, the randomly fluctuating, three-dimensional velocity field created by the EKI rapidly and effectively stirs an initially heterogeneous solution and generates a homogeneous solution that is useful in a variety of biochemical and bioanalytical systems. Microfabricated on a glass substrate, the inventive EKI micromixer can be easily and advantageously integrated in molecular diagnostics apparatuses and systems, such as a chip-based “Lab-on-a-Chip” microfluidic device.

The invention relates to a method and a device for mixing a liquid in a substantially sealed container or a mixture of a liquid and a fine-particle solid, said liquid or mixture only partially filling the internal volume of the container that can be occupied by a fluidic phase and the remaining available internal volume of the container being filled by a gaseous phase. According to the invention,the essentially same liquid or mixture is fed to the container in the form of a propelled stream of a suction device that is situated in the liquid or mixture in the container. In its simplest form, the method according to the invention is implemented by means of an ejector (i.e. according to water jet pump principles) embodied as the suction device. The propelled stream is pumped through a propelling nozzle, which is fitted into the ejector in such a way that gas is sucked from the gaseous phase during the passage of the stream through the nozzle, e.g. by means of a riser tube that projects into the gaseous phase of the container, and is released in the form of dispersed gas bubbles, together with the propelled stream, into the liquid content of the storage container.
