When the dehydroxylated kaolin is metakaolin, the heated mixture has a GE brightness greater than 86% and a Hunter yellowness index of less than about 11. When the dehydroxylated kaolin is fully calcined kaolin, the heated mixture has a GE brightness greater than 89%. The heated mixture is advantageously used in decorative paper.
