System and method for optically detecting a click event

An imaging system captures a sequence of images representing finger lift-up and finger put-down motions over a sensing area and produces an image signal for use in detecting a click event. At least one light source illuminates a finger interface upon which a user places a finger (or thumb). Light reflected from the finger is captured by an image sensor as image data corresponding to the sequence of images. At least one image signal is produced in connection with or based on the image data. The image signal is used to detect a finger lift-up or finger put-down motion. A click, such as a single click, double click or triple click, is detected based on a combination of finger lift-up and finger put-down motions within a configurable time range.

Shape memory alloy motor as incorpoated into solar tracking mechanism

The present invention provides a motor driven by shape memory alloys for use in a variety of applications. In the disclosed embodiment, the motor is used to drive a photovoltaic panel so that the panel may remain in appropriate alignment with the sun throughout the day. In such a configuration, the motor assembly relies upon the intrinsic properties of shape memory alloys, in conjunction with a spring assembly, in order to generate sufficient torque in order to rotate the photovoltaic panel. In order to control the orientation of the panel, the system relies upon a sun tracking mechanism which includes an analog sensor circuit, a plurality of phototransistors and a power source. Accordingly, the device is able to rotate the photovoltaic panel in discrete and precise increments as the day progresses.

A multimode voltage regulator circuit includes a linear regulator sub-circuit configured to supply current to a load in a low-current mode, responsive to a first control signal from a first control path, as well as a switching regulator sub-circuit configured to supply current to the load in a high-current mode, responsive to a second control signal from a second control path. Rod pushing and pulling machine

The invention relates to an improved rod pushing and pulling machine suited for use in underground pipe bursting and replacement with a rod string wherein each rod has at least one radially enlarged upset thereon. The machine includes a housing or frame having a front wall with an access opening therein through which a rod string can extend. At least one main thrust cylinder is mounted on the housing. A movable carriage connected to the thrust cylinder engages the rod, drives it in a pushing or pulling direction, and then releases it for another stroke. Between strokes, a “bungee” vise holds the rod string so that it does not slip back in the opposite direction.

Wastewater treatment system

In a process for the treatment of wastewater containing carbonaceous and nitrogenous contaminants, wastewater is mixed with aerobic microorganisms capable of converting carbonaceous biological oxygen demand (CBOD) into carbon dioxide, water, and biological cell mass. Oxygen is supplied to the reaction mixture for supporting reduction of the CBOD by the aerobic microorganisms in the reaction mixture. To substantially prevent nitrification of the nitrogenous contaminants in the reaction mixture and avoid the cost of downstream denitrification, the hydraulic residence time of the nitrogenous contaminants in the reaction mixture is controlled by removing partially treated water with dissolved ammonia from the reaction mixture, while retaining the biological cell mass in the reaction mixture. This separates the nitrogen load from the carbon load and enables independent treatment of these contaminants. The ammonia is scrubbed from the partially treated water to create fully treated water which is disposed or returned to the reaction mixture.

Provided is a technique of detecting not only a main DC voltage but also an auxiliary DC voltage to protect a main rectifier circuit and an auxiliary rectifier circuit. A main power supply circuit drives a load. A main rectifier circuit receives an AC voltage through a first switch to supply the main power supply circuit with a main DC voltage. The first switch is turned off when an overcurrent flows through the main power supply circuit or the load is an overload for the main power supply circuit. A control circuit is supplied with operating power from an auxiliary power supply circuit. An auxiliary rectifier circuit receives the AC voltage while bypassing the first switch to supply the auxiliary power supply circuit with an auxiliary DC voltage. A DC voltage detection circuit detects the main DC voltage and the auxiliary DC voltage.

Rod pushing and pulling machine

The invention relates to an improved rod pushing and pulling machine suited for use in underground pipe bursting and replacement with a rod string wherein each rod has at least one radially enlarged upset thereon. The machine includes a housing or frame having a pair of side walls and a front wall with an access opening therein through which a rod string can extend. At least one main thrust cylinder is mounted on the housing. A ratchet block mechanism driven by the main thrust cylinder includes a pivoting pawl and a reversible stop mechanism that permits the pawl to swing out of the way of an upset on a rod as the ratchet block mechanism moves along the rod in one direction, but forces the pawl to engage the upset to drive the rod string when the ratchet block mechanism moves along the rod in the other direction. A bungee vise is mounted on the housing behind the ratchet block mechanism, the bungee vise having a pair of jaws and an actuator that causes the jaws to engage the rod string and hold it against longitudinal movement when the rod string is not engaged by the ratchet block mechanism, and disengage when the rod string is engaged by the ratchet block mechanism.

An acoustical holographic imaging method and apparatus for introducing a reference wave into a hologram surface such that the reference wave does not interfere with an object placed adjacent to or in close proximity to the hologram surface. More particularly, the ultrasonic holographic imaging system may use a reference wave introduced on the side of a thin (3 element) detector that acts as a wave guide; to introduce the reference wave to a liquid-to-gas interface or alternatively, from the topside of the detecting surface through a liquid-to-liquid interface. The system eliminates the acoustic lens system, thereby reducing the size and cost of the system. Further, an object may be placed at the detecting surface, increasing the depth of field of the resultant image and reducing the energy needed from the object source. The system may additionally utilize multiple reference sources.

Apparatus and method for a sealing system

A sealing system adapted for use on an item of equipment having a male threaded component including a male threaded section having an interior portion. The sealing system comprises a female threaded component having a female threaded section and a scraper seal groove. The sealing system also comprises a scraper seal that is configured to be disposed in the scraper seal groove of the female threaded component and fit into the male threaded section of the male threaded component. The forces produced by the item of equipment pass directly to the female threaded component from the male threaded section. A method for sealing an interior portion of a threaded section of the male threaded component comprising providing such a sealing system and screwing the male threaded component, into the female threaded component.
