Device for Smoothing Fluctuations in Renewable Energy Power Production Cause by Dynamic Environmental Conditions

A renewable energy generator imposes costs on a power grid from rapid fluctuations in output. A device is disclosed that collects data on renewable power production, meteorological and other information, forecasts short timescale renewable power production then mitigates costs incurred by power fluctuations by modulating the power output, while maximizing power production revenue. Mitigation may be effected by an AC / DC inverter, an energy storage system, demand response or a FACTS device. The magnitude and costs for modulating response required from energy storage, FACTS or other power modulation equipment is thereby reduced.

Power control structure for electric power tools

A power control structure aims for an electric power tool which gets an input power from an electric power source and converts the input power to a driving power to drive an electric motor. The electric power tool further includes a manual control means, a magnetic control element and a power modulation circuit. The manual control means includes a trigger portion movable by depressing of a user and a magnetic element movable with the trigger portion. Method and Apparatus for Low Power Modulation and Massive Medium Access Control

An ultra low power, low complexity, low collision, deterministic modulation method that also works as a massive medium access mechanism for communication systems is based on positioning data in a communication resource space, such as time and frequency, such that the position of a symbol in that space determines its value and its access to the medium. The number base of the symbol is determined by the size of the subset of the resource space it is positioning itself in and, thereby, a few sparsely located symbols can convey a large value, while the remainder of the space can be simultaneously and massively used by other sparsely resource using members of the network.

Plasma processing method and plasma processing apparatus

At a time point T0 when starting a process, a duty ratio of a high frequency power RF1 to which power modulation is performed is set to be an initial value (about 90%) which allows plasma to be ignited securely under any power modulating conditions. At the substantially same time of starting the process, the duty ratio of the high frequency power RF1 is gradually reduced from the initial value (about 90%) in a regular negative gradient or in a ramp waveform. At a time point t2 after a lapse of a preset time Td, the duty ratio has an originally set value Ds for an etching process. After the time point t2, the duty ratio is fixed or maintained at the set value Ds until the end (time point T4) of the process.

Alternator system

An alternator system (50, 52) that, in one aspect, utilizes a Lundell style alternator that is augmented by power electronic switching components (62) in the output section. In one embodiment, some of these power switching embodiments employ a scaling of stator turns and wire size to achieve the superior performance at higher speeds. The alternator system provides significantly enhanced power capability above idle as compared with classical Lundell alternator systems using Lundell alternators of the same size that are designed with the same power capability at idle. In one preferred dual voltage embodiment, a power switch (semi-conductor) connects the alternator output directly to the low voltage load at low engine speeds and when the power switch is "opened" at higher speeds, the alternator's power is channeled to the higher voltage. In a 14-volt / 42-volt dual-voltage system, this arrangement provides triple the alternator's power capability at high speeds as compared to a conventional unenhanced capabilities of the altenator system of the present invention are accomplished without increasing the alternator size or required current capacity and without using high frequency semiconductor power modulation (106).

System and method for selectively forming and rotating a transmission beam

Broadly speaking, the invention comprises systems and methods that use the number of mobile stations, denoted by N, communicating with a base station, as a variable that determines the optimum induced change rate, R, and the antenna beam width, W, of a time-varying base station antenna gain pattern used in conjunction with a forward power modulation (FPM) or a similar scheme to maximize the overall data throughput from the base station by taking advantage of multi-user diversity. In one embodiment, the FPM scheme is turned off if N is below a lower threshold. If N is above this threshold, the FPM scheme is turned on with R and W set to appropriate values. Generally, higher values of N correspond to higher values of R and lower values of W.

Recording clock generating device and method thereof

Crosstalk between tracks, land prepit leakage, and effects of recording power modulation can cause the wobble signal period to change irregularly, thereby producing jitter in the recording clock which is derived by frequency multiplying the wobble signal. This problem is resolved by a recording clock generating circuit having an arrangement to average the wobble signal period, a timer for generating a rectangular wave with substantially the same period as the average period, and a frequency multiplying PLL for multiplying the timer output. The period averaging arrangement in particular determines the approximate average period at every wobble period and reflects the phase difference between the wobble signal and the timer in the timer setting so as to improve recording clock stability.
