Method and system for purging moisture from an oxygenator

ActiveUS20100101657A1Improving gas exchange propertyImproves gas exchange propertyMembranesSemi-permeable membranesHollow fibre membraneFiber
A method and system for improving gas exchange properties of oxygenators which utilize hollow fiber membranes for removing carbon dioxide or adding oxygen to a patient's blood via extracorporeal circulation by removing moisture accumulating in the fibers are disclosed. The system utilizes a vacuum source for drawing sweep gas into the oxygenator, a moisture collection unit for storing moisture removed from the oxygenator, the moisture collecting unit being in communication with the oxygenator and the vacuum source and a flow control mechanism having an open position which allows sweep gas exiting the oxygenator to flow to the moisture collecting unit and a closed position which stops the flow of sweep gas from the oxygenator to the moisture collecting unit. The vacuum source draws sweep gas through the oxygenator and moisture collecting unit when the flow control mechanism is in the open position and the vacuum source creates a vacuum buildup in the moisture collecting unit when the flow control mechanism is in the closed position. The vacuum in the moisture collecting unit provides a sudden increase to the flow rate of the sweep gas to draw moisture with the sweep gas exiting the oxygenator when the flow control mechanism is returned to the open position.

Clock and data recovery with extended integration cycles

Clock and data recovery circuitry includes an interleaved sampler having multiple integrators, where at least one of the integrators integrates the input data for at least two unit intervals (UIs). One embodiment includes a four-way interleaved sampler, where each integrator in the sampler integrates the input data for two UIs, where each integrator is sampled at or near the middle of its two-UI integration cycle. In an exemplary 10-GHz system, the reset cycle of each integrator may begin many tens of picoseconds after the data is sampled. Since the signal is sampled near the center of the integration cycle and is not highly proximate to the time of the integrator reset, the latch signal has a window of uncertainty extending into the length of a data bit cell with little possibility of latching erroneous data. The sensitivity of the clock recovery circuitry may be optimized by centering the latch function over the time of highest signal level, thereby maximizing signal-to-noise ratio.

Autonomous driving system

An autonomous driving system acquires information concerning an empty space situation in an adjacent lane, and information concerning an entry frequency with which other vehicles enter into an own lane from the adjacent lane, when an own vehicle travels on a road having a plurality of lanes. The autonomous driving system determines whether or not to select the adjacent lane as an own vehicle travel lane in accordance with the empty space situation in the adjacent lane and the entry frequency. However, when the entry frequency is a threshold value or more, determination not to select the adjacent lane as the own vehicle travel lane is kept irrespective of the empty space situation in the adjacent lane. The autonomous driving system performs lane change to the adjacent lane autonomously when the adjacent lane is selected as the own vehicle travel lane.
