Fat analysis for optimized sequential cluster management

Techniques for managing data in a non-volatile memory system (e.g., Flash Memory) are disclosed. A controller can use information relating to a host's file system, which is stored by the host on non-volatile memory, to determine if one or more clusters (or sectors with clusters) are currently allocated. The controller can use the information relating to the host's file system to identify when the host is sending data to the next free cluster and to store such data in a sequential format by copying data from other locations in the non-volatile memory.

Gesture-based information and command entry for motor vehicle

A method of receiving input from a user includes providing a surface within reach of a hand of the user. A plurality of locations on the surface that are touched by the user are sensed. An alphanumeric character having a shape most similar to the plurality of touched locations on the surface is determined. The user is audibly or visually informed of the alphanumeric character and / or a word in which the alphanumeric character is included. Feedback is received from the user regarding whether the alphanumeric character and / or word is an alphanumeric character and / or word that the user intended to be determined in the determining step.

Wireless communication of physiological variables

The present invention relates to a system and a method of measuring a physiological variable in a body. A basic idea of the present invention is to measure a physiological variable in a body by means of employing a sensor (314) which is arranged to be disposed in the body for measuring the physiological variable. The sensor must be provided with a supply voltage in order to be operable. Therefore, a control unit (322) disposed outside the body provides this supply voltage to the sensor. The control unit also receives, from the sensor, via a wired connection (311), signals that represent the physiological variables that are measured. The control unit is arranged with a communication interface (401, 701) and a modulator (301) for wireless communication of the measured physiological variables for presentation purposes.

Apparatus and methods for optically-coupled memory systems

Optically-coupled memory systems are disclosed. In one embodiment, a system memory includes a carrier substrate, and a controller attached to the carrier substrate and operable to transmit and receive optical signals, and first and second memory modules. The module substrate of the first memory module has an aperture formed therein, the aperture being operable to provide an optical path for optical signals between the controller and an optical transmitter / receiver unit of the second memory module. Thus, the system memory provides the advantages of “free space” optical connection in a compact arrangement of memory modules. In an alternate embodiment, the first memory module includes a beam splitter attached to the module substrate proximate the aperture. In another embodiment, the first and second memory modules are staged on the carrier substrate to provide an unobstructed path for optical signals. In another embodiment, the optical transmitter / receiver unit projects outwardly from the module substrate to provide an unobstructed path for optical signals.

Acid and high temperature resistant cement composites

Process for production of acid and high temperature resistant cement composites, where the matrix is alkali activated F fly ash alone, F Fly ash combined with ground slag or ground slag alone. F-fly ash produces lower quality alkali activated cement systems. On the other hand the lack of calcium oxide results in very high resistance to medium and highly concentrated inorganic or organic acids. The high strength and low permeability of pure F-fly ash cement systems is achieved by using in the composition un-densified silica fume, the amorphous silicone dioxide obtained as by products in production of ferro-silicones. Precipitated nano-particle silica made from soluble silicates and nano-particle silica fume produced by burning silicon tetra chloride in the hydrogen stream.

Commercial power production by catalytic fusion of deuterium gas

After much experimentation, I have developed, a new, cost-effective, process for commercial-scale production of power by catalytic fusion of D2 gas, under moderate conditions of temperature and pressure. This process can be scaled up to any desired size, and can employ a variety of "hydrogenation" catalysts, both precious metal, and non-precious metal. Briefly, the process comprises absorbing D2 gas in or on the selected catalyst, then bringing the temperature into the range of very roughly 150° to 250° C., and then degassing the catalyst bed under reduced pressure. The process is necessarily run on a cyclic basis, with a multiplicity of catalyst bed entities, with one or more being in the D2-absorption mode, concurrently with one or more being in the heat-generation node.

Method and apparatus for determining the unbalance of a rotating body

An apparatus for determining the unbalance of a rotational body includes a central mounting plate with a mounting fixture on which the rotational body is received, an outer frame, and a plurality of supporting webs that connect the mounting plate to the frame. The webs are configured and arranged so that the mounting plate can pivotally vibrate about a pivot axis, and translationally vibrate in the plane of the mounting plate. A first vibration transducer measures the pivoting vibration and a second vibration transducer measures the translational vibration. The pivot axis remains in the central plane of the mounting plate which coincides with the effective plane of the translational vibration measuring transducer. In this manner, the translational vibration induced by a static unbalance, and the pivoting vibration induced by the moment unbalance are separated and then separately measured, which enables the accurate measurement of both the static unbalance component and the moment unbalance component of a dynamic unbalance. In a method using such an apparatus, all of the forces and moments originating from the rotational body are transmitted directly into and through the dynamometer element itself, without requiring any additional supporting elements.

Electromechanical wheel brake system

The invention relates to an electromechanical wheel brake device, having a screw link actuator, which is supported in a floating caliper. The screw link actuator can be driven by an electric motor, and can press a frictional brake lining against one side of a brake disc and can press a second frictional brake lining against another side of the brake disc by means of a reaction force by way of the floating caliper. In order to permit a release of the wheel brake device in the event of a malfunction, brake device embodies the screw link actuator as selflocking-free, supporting a spindle nut and a threaded spindle in rotary fashion, and securing the threaded spindle against rotation by means of a releasable rotation prevention device. The threaded spindle is connected in a rotationally secured and axially mobile fashion by means of a positive engagement. In the event of a malfunction, the rotation prevention device is released and the frictional brake lining, which is pressed with force against the brake disc, presses the threaded spindle away from the brake disc, wherein the threaded spindle is set into rotation and moves away from the brake disc.

Structure and method for enhancing resistance to fracture of bonding pads

The present invention provides bond pads structures between semiconductor integrated circuits and the chip package with enhanced resistance to fracture and improved reliability. Mismatch in the coefficient of temperature expansion (CTE) among the materials used in bond structures induces stress and shear on them that may result in fractures within the back end dielectric stacks and cause reliability problems of the packaging. By placing multiple metal pads which are connected to the bond pad through multiple metal via, the adhesion between the bond pads and the back end dielectric stacks is enhanced.

Monitoring wood sample weight with mechanical force proportioning

In a monitoring system for a wood drying kiln having a housing with an interior area for placement of a charge of wood for drying the charge of wood, the interior area having a floor, environment devices for adjusting heat and humidity in the interior area of the kiln, and a control unit for controlling the environment devices, the improvement is a support in the interior area for supporting a representative sample of the charge of wood, a sensor mounted to the support for sensing the weight of the sample which is a function of moisture content in the sample and a proportioning mechanism connected between the sensor and the sample for suspending the sample and for applying a proportioned force resulting from the weight of the sample to the sensor. The sensor is connected to the control unit for generating a signal which is proportional to the weight, and thus, to the moisture content of the sample. A stand on the kiln floor has a member for carrying the support at a location which is spaced from the wood charge without requiring and kiln wall space. The invention also includes the possibility of supporting the sensor from the ceiling and at any location in the kiln whether the sensor is supported from the ceiling or the floor. The invention is also useful in kilns for drying other materials than wood.
