System and method for simplifying cache coherence using multiple write policies

System and methods for cache coherence in a multi-core processing environment having a local / shared cache hierarchy. The system includes multiple processor cores, a main memory, and a local cache memory associated with each core for storing cache lines accessible only by the associated core. Cache lines are classified as either private or shared. A shared cache memory is coupled to the local cache memories and main memory for storing cache lines. The cores follow a write-back to the local memory for private cache lines, and a write-through to the shared memory for shared cache lines. Shared cache lines in local cache memory enter a transient dirty state when written by the core. Shared cache lines transition from a transient dirty to a valid state with a self-initiated write-through to the shared memory. The write-through to shared memory can include only data that was modified in the transient dirty state.

Method for repeated authentication of a user subscription identity module

A method for improving an established Authentication and Key Agreement procedure which prevents rogue mobiles from fraudulently gaining access to a communication system. The communication system periodically broadcasts a challenge interrogation message requesting that a mobile, which is currently validated to use the system, to authenticate itself to the system. The mobile computes an authentication response based on information known only to the communication system and the USIM of the mobile and transmits said response to the communication system. The communication system also computes an authentication response and compares said response with that received from the mobile. A mobile is authenticated by the communication system when the two authentication responses are equal. Otherwise, the mobile is not given access to the communication system.

Peer to peer code generator and decoder for digital systems

Digital content from a source (e.g., a file or a stream), is striped and encoded in parallel over a cluster of Storage Systems. The encoding ensures that subsequent retrieval of the data succeeds even when some members of the cluster of Storage Systems are lost or when errors in communication result in the loss of some IP packets. Host Map File (HMF) data is produced that describes fully how to retrieve the content, including the encoding parameters, the cluster of Storage Systems and the striping of the encoded data. This HMF data is then inserted as the header of every encoded file on the cluster of Storage Systems. The HMF data is the only way the encoded files can be reassembled into a meaningful whole. The original content is retrieved by requesting its data from the cluster of Storage Systems. In each Storage System, a decoder parses the HMF data and transmits the striped data to the requestor. The decoders cooperate to dynamically detect erasures and to reconstruct the missing data. The system is self-healing as new Storage Systems are able to reconstruct data missing due to the loss of any Storage Systems from the cluster without impeding concurrent encode and decode transactions.

Methods of adjusting the Wobbe Index of a fuel and compositions thereof

Novel methods of providing fuels to a gas-to-liquids facility are disclosed. A gas-to-liquids facility typically operates in a remote location and therefore must supply its own energy needs. These facilities are often sustained by fuels having different heating values, and for smooth operation while transitioning from one fuel to another, (such as during startup, shut down, and emergencies) the Wobble Indices of the two fuels cannot greatly vary from one another. According to embodiments of the present invention, the Wobble Index of either or both of the fuels is adjusted such that their ratio is less than or equal to about 3. The fuel having the higher Wobble Index may be natural gas, and materials such as nitrogen, carbon dioxide and flue gas may be added to lower its Wobble Index. The fuel having the lower Wobble Index may be the tail gas of a Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, and materials such as methane, ethane, LPG, or natural gas may be added to raise its Wobble Index. Alternatively, carbon dioxide may be removed from the tail gas to raise its Wobble Index.

Yaw control device for a nozzle having a rectangular outlet section

The invention relates to a yaw control device for an aircraft fitted with a supersonic nozzle having a rectangular or flat section comprising a supersonic throat extended by a diverging portion in which supersonic flow occurs. In order to enable the aircraft to be controlled in yaw in the absence of a vertical fin, the device of the invention makes use of jet control surfaces in the form of airfoils disposed in the diverging portion of the nozzle. The control surfaces are movable about respective pivot axes in order to generate a lateral force when in a deflected position, so as to enable the aircraft to turn about its yaw axis.

Method for direct connection of mmic amplifiers to balanced antenna aperture

A MMIC amplifier is directly connected to the balanced feed points at the aperture of an antenna to eliminate the distance between electronics coupled to the antenna and the antenna itself, such that interfaces, components and connection lines which introduce losses and parasitic effects that degrade system performance are eliminated due the direct connection. Expanding the aperture of the antenna to accommodate the direct connection of a MMIC amplifier to balanced feed points of an antenna has been found to have no deleterious effects on antenna performance. Moreover, when coupling the MMIC amplifier to an unbalanced coaxial line, any associated ripple is minimized due to the direct connection.

Coating system and process and apparatus for depositing a coating system

A coating system for reducing the tendency for hydrocarbon fluids, such as fuels and oils, to form carbonaceous deposits that adhere to fluid containment surfaces. The coating system combines an outermost layer of platinum with an inner ceramic barrier layer of silica and / or tantala. The platinum layer catalyzes the hydrocarbon fluid to form particles of carbonaceous gum substances, and the ceramic barrier layer seals the containment surface from the hydrocarbon fluid to eliminate attachments points for deposits and inhibit interdiffusion between the platinum layer and the containment surface. The invention also encompasses a coating apparatus and process for depositing the coating system.

Isolated hydrogen production process

A method for operating a hydrogen production process with reduced incidents of hydrogen explosions by separating a hydrogen production step from a heat source by locating the hydrogen production step and the hydrogen heat source a substantial distance apart. Costs are not significantly increased by the substantial distance due to the fact that elevated temperatures are not required for the hydrogen generation step, and therefore heat loss is not an issue during the transportation of reaction compounds across the distances.
