InactiveUS20070021816A1Shorten the construction periodGreat effect on aneurysmal blood flowStentsBlood vesselsPorosityInsertion stent
The present invention relates to a stent including a variable porosity, tubular structure having pores defined by structural surfaces. The tubular structure has a low porosity region in proximity to or at either end of the tubular structure, where the low porosity region is less porous than other regions located on the tubular structure and fully or partially obstructs passage of fluid. Any arcuate path that starts at one point within the low porosity region and goes around the perimeter of the tubular structure to stop at the same point within the low porosity region must have at least a portion that is outside of the low porosity region. Also disclosed is a method of modifying blood flow within and near an opening of an aneurysm in a blood vessel by deploying one or more stents of the present invention near an opening of the aneurysm in a blood vessel.

Tissue treatment by normothermic heating

An apparatus for treating tissue in a tissue treatment area includes a heater that does not contact the tissue. The apparatus may be attached to the skin of a person to form a treatment volume about the tissue to be treated. The heater, supported at the layer, is held near the tissue to be treated, out of contact with the tissue. The apparatus includes a controller to cause the heater to raise the temperature of tissue in the tissue treatment area to a temperature in a range from a pretreatment temperature to 38° C. The controller may include means that cause the heater to operate over a therapeutic sequence, that cycle the heater on and off, that provide selectable average temperature values, that cause the heater to operate over an average temperature range, that cause the heater to operate at an average temperature over a therapy cycle, or that cause the heater to operate at an average temperature over a therapeutic sequence.

Normothermic tissue treatment

A non-contact controllable heater wound covering and method having a peripheral sealing ring covered by a layer to which is attached a heater and this assembly is attached to the skin with an adhesive so that the heater is held proximate the wound area in a non-contact position. The layer and peripheral sealing ring together define a treatment volume proximate the wound. The wound covering includes a programmable active heater control and the sealing ring may dispense water to control the humidity of the treatment volume. One form of active heat is an electrical resistive filament in variable geometric shapes providing versatility in application of heat to different types of wounds and wound area geometries. Another form of active heat is the transfer of a heated gas to the wound covering.

A method of oral treatment comprises passing a flow of a gas mixture from a pressure vessel containing the gas mixture through a generator of non-thermal plasma; applying a partially ionising electrical potential to the flow of the gas mixture in the plasma generator, and thereby forming a non-thermal gaseous plasma in the gas mixture, and causing the flow of the gas mixture downstream of the plasma generator to perform the oral treatment. The gas mixture comprises (a) a noble gas selected from helium and argon and mixtures thereof, and (b) an additive gas selected from water vapour, air, oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and nitric oxide and mixtures of any two or more thereof. The additive gas forms up to 1% by volume of the gas mixture. The oral treatment may be the cosmetic whitening of teeth, the non-clinical cleaning of teeth or the in situ cleaning of orthodontic braces, amongst others.

Method for Activating Surface of Metal Member

A passivated film on a surface of a high-alloy steel member makes it difficult to apply diffusion treatment, such as gas nitriding or gas carburizing, that forms a nitrided layer, carburized layer or carbonitrided layer on the surface of the steel member. An activating treatment method is provided for the surface of the metal member. This method is not accompanied by problems of conventional activation treatment with a halide, such as furnace deposits, furnace wall erosion and effluent gas detoxification treatment, and is useful as pretreatment for diffusion treatment. According to this method, the passivated surface of the high-alloy steel member can be activated by using a gas commonly employed in gas heat treatment, and forming HCN gas in a heating furnace while making use of catalytic action of the steel member or a surface of the furnace.

Cogeneration system for grease separation and power production

A cogeneration process and system which provides for the reclamation of a grease fuel from a concentrated grease trap pumping waste stream and the use of said grease fuel in a compression ignition reciprocating engine for the production of electric power. The concentrated grease trap pumpings are heated and mixed in the first stage of the process to ensure all grease is liquefied. This warm mixed stream is then separated by centrifuge into a heavy stream consisting of water and sediments and an oil-rich stream consisting of oil, grease / water emulsion and residual water. This oil-rich mixture is heated sufficiently to evaporate the residual water as well as the water of emulsion yielding a water free grease fuel suitable for use in the compression ignition engine. Heat energy for grease liquefaction and emulsion breaking is supplied by an engine jacket water cooling circuit and an exhaust heat recovery, respectively.

Method for diagnosing atopic dermatitis through microbial metagenomic analysis

The present invention relates to a method of diagnosing atopic dermatitis through microbial metagenomic analysis, and more specifically, the present invention relates to a method of diagnosing atopic dermatitis by analyzing an increase or decrease in the content of specific bacteria- or archaea-derived extracellular vesicles by conducting a metagenome analysis using normal individual and subject-derived samples. Since the extracellular vesicles secreted from microorganisms present in the environment can be absorbed into the human body to regulate immune functions and directly affect the occurrence of inflammation. It is difficult to early diagnose atopic dermatitis before symptoms appear, and thus it is difficult to effectively treat the atopic dermatitis. Therefore, as the present invention can early diagnose and predict a risk group of atopic dermatitis by predicting the risk of developing atopic dermatitis through the metagenome analysis using human body-derived samples, it is possible to delay the onset time or prevent the onset of atopic dermatitis through proper management. In addition, the present invention enables early diagnosis even after onset, thereby lowering the incidence of atopic dermatitis and improving therapeutic effects.
