Compositions and methods are provided for the sizing of paper, to enhance the quality of images printed thereon. The novel sizing compositions contain as a sizing agent a mixture of a polyacid and a polybase. When applied to a paper substrate, such as in an internal or external sizing process, the sizing compositions result in a sized paper substrate that provides high quality printed images when printed with an ink containing a reactive dye having ionizable and / or nucleophilic groups capable of reacting with the sizing agent. Images printed on a paper substrate coated with the sizing compositions of the invention are bleed-resistant, water-resistant (e.g., water-fast), and / or are characterized by an enhanced chroma and hue.

Sheet products prepared in accordance with the invention exhibit improved post-processability and ease of surface maintenance, and may be fabricated into a variety of products including light diffusers, projection screens, and the like.

According to the present invention, the deposition output and the core means can be separated easily from the silicon rod output obtained by the process of silicon deposition, and the contamination of the deposition output caused by impurities of the metallic core element can be minimized, thereby a high-purity silicon can be prepared in a more economic and convenient way.

Provided are carbide derived carbon prepared by thermochemically reacting carbide compounds and a halogen element containing gas and extracting all atoms of the carbide compounds except carbon atoms, wherein the intensity ratios of the graphite G band at 1590 cm−1 to the disordered-induced D band at 1350 cm−1 are in the range of 0.3 through 5 when the carbide derived carbon is analyzed using Raman peak analysis, wherein the BET surface area of the carbide derived carbon is 1000 m2 / g or more, wherein a weak peak or wide single peak of the graphite (002) surface is seen at 2θ=25° when the carbide derived carbon is analyzed using X-ray diffractometry, and wherein the electron diffraction pattern of the carbide derived carbon is the halo pattern typical of amorphous carbon when the carbide derived carbon is analyzed using electron microscopy. The emitter has good uniformity and a long lifetime. An emitter can be prepared using a more inexpensive method than that used to manufacture conventional carbon nanotubes.

Chemical Bath Deposition Apparatus for Fabrication of Semiconductor Films

A chemical bath deposition method and a system are presented to prepare different thin films on plane substrates. In particular, they are useful to deposit CdS or ZnS buffer layers in manufacture of thin film solar cells. This method and the deposition system deposit thin films onto vertically travelling plane workpieces delivered by a conveyor belt. The thin films are deposited with continuously spraying the reaction solutions from their freshly mixed styles to gradually aged forms until the designed thickness is obtained. The substrates and the solutions are heated to a reaction temperature. During the deposition processes, the front surfaces of the substrates are totally covered with the sprayed solutions but the substrate backsides are remained dry. The reaction ambience inside the reactor can be isolated from the outside atmosphere. The apparatus is designed to generate a minimum amount of waste solutions for chemical treatments.

A process for making a phosphorus-containing compound is disclosed. The process comprises contacting a compound of formula (A) wherein RA and RB are selected from optionally substituted aryl, aryloxy, alkyl and alkoxy groups or can be combined to form cyclic structures; and RC is methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, n-butyl, i-butyl, t-butyl, phenyl or benzyl; and a compound of formula (B) wherein R1-R4 are selected from optionally substituted aryl, aryloxy, alkyl and alkoxy groups. The phosphorus-containing compound can then be used as a flame retardants for polymers, especially for epoxy, polyurethane, thermosetting resins and thermoplastic polymers. Such flame retardant-containing polymers can be used to make protective coating formulations and ignition-resistant fabricated articles, such as electrical laminates, polyurethane foams, and various molded and / or foamed thermoplastic products.
