The method comprises the following steps that 1. scutellaria baicalensis roots are cleaned, and impurities such as soil are removed; 2. scutellaria baicalensis roots are smashed to 10-50 mesh; 3. water is added to scutellaria baicalensis root powder according to a liquid-to-solid ratio of 1 to (3-5), the mixture heated to be boiled for 10-20min; and 4. an extracting solution is filtered, and a filtrate is obtained and stored at 2-4 degrees. The invention also discloses application of the extracted biological fresh-keeping agent in preservation of cherry tomatoes. The method has the beneficial effects that the biological fresh-keeping agent is extracted by taking scutellaria baicalensis as a raw material and used for the fresh keeping of the cherry tomatoes, is safe, nontoxic and pollution-free, and can replace a chemical sterilizer and a preservative for the fresh keeping of the cherry tomatoes, so that the pollution of the chemical sterilizer to an environment is avoided and the food safety is ensured.
