Piezoelectric, micro-exercise apparatus and method

ActiveUS20110015555A1Easy to wearMinimize cancelElectrotherapySurgeryEntire bonesPhysical therapy
An apparatus and method for micro-exercise apply piezoelectric stress to cells of a bone mass by inducing voltages in the bone mass. Application of dynamic, electromagnetic fields passing through the conductive bone mass induce currents and voltages locally in and around cells or groups of cells. The cells respond to the combination of mechanical stress and strain by building themselves up as they would if they had been subjected to the stress and strain of conventional exercise. Thus, micro-exercise at a cellular level of the bone mass can be stimulated as if the stress and strain had been applied to the entire bone structure of which the smaller cellular portions are constituent parts. In combination with casts or splints, the sources of electromagnetic flux may be embedded in the frame or solid structure, the protective padding added for comfort, or both.

Method for producing a solid ceramic fuel cell

According to a method for producing a solid ceramic fuel cell, a solid electrolyte layer is gas-tightly deposited on an electrode inside a coating chamber, using a plasma spraying technique. The pressure inside the coating chamber is set at less than approximately 15 mbar for this purpose. A coating material is powder form, preferably with a particle diameter of significantly less than 10 μm, is finely dispersed in the plasma jet in such a way that the individual particles are isolated from each other when they meet the electrode. This enables a very homogenous and impervious solid electrolyte layer to be deposited.

Method and device for requesting and allocating bandwidths in wireless communication systems

To address the drawbacks of the current bandwidth requesting and allocation in the wireless broadband access network, the present invention proposes a technical solution of fast bandwidth requesting and allocation, wherein the MS sends a bandwidth allocation request message to the BS for only once, and the interactions between the BS and the MS are decreased so as to increase the efficiency of bandwidth requesting and allocation, effectively shorten the transmission waiting time of traffic data, and especially improve the support for latency-sensitive data traffic. Due to the fact that the interactions between the BS and the MS are decreased, various processing resources in the BS and the MS are spared. Additionally, the BS can also adjust the size of the time / frequency resource block on which each mobile station sends the bandwidth allocation request message according to the number of the mobile stations covered by the base station, and / or according to the traffic types in each mobile station, so as to make the whole wireless communication system (comprising one BS and one or more MS covered by the BS) operate efficiently.

Configuration and fabrication of semiconductor structure in which source and drain extensions of field-effect transistor are defined with different dopants

An insulated-gate field-effect transistor (100) provided along an upper surface of a semiconductor body contains a pair of source / drain zones (240 and 242) laterally separated by a channel zone (244). A gate electrode (262) overlies a gate dielectric layer (260) above the channel zone. Each source / drain zone includes a main portion (240M or 242M) and a more lightly doped lateral extension (240E or 242E) laterally continuous with the main portion and extending laterally under the gate electrode. The lateral extensions, which terminate the channel zone along the upper semiconductor surface, are respectively largely defined by a pair of semiconductor dopants of different atomic weights. With the transistor being an asymmetric device, the source / drain zones constitute a source and a drain. The lateral extension of the source is then more lightly doped than, and defined with dopant of higher atomic weight, than the lateral extension of the drain.

Fret detection method and device

When FRET (Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer) detection of a large number of samples is performed in a short time for a sample consisting of a donor molecule and an acceptor molecule, the donor molecule is irradiated at first with first laser light used for exciting a donor molecule subjected to intensity modulation at a frequency of f+Δf, the accepter molecule is irradiated with second laser light used for exciting an acceptor molecule subjected to intensity modulation at a frequency of f, and fluorescence emitted from the accepter molecule is received. From a fluorescence signal thus received, a first signal component of fluorescence emitted from the accepter molecule through FRET, and a second signal component of fluorescence emitted from an accepter molecule excited through irradiation with the second laser light are extracted. Phase lags of the first and second signal components thus extracted are then calculated and the presence of generation of FRET is judged based on these phase lags.

Functionalized sol-gel material, sol-gel film derived therefrom, and method for preparing the same

A method of preparing a sol-gel material is described. A metal alkoxide and an organically modified Si-alkoxide having a predetermined functional group are dissolved in a first solvent and a second solvent to form a first solution and a second solution, respectively. The first solution and the second solution are then mixed and heated. As a result, the metal alkoxide reacts with the organically modified Si-alkoxide, and a functionalized sol-gel material is formed thereby. Furthermore, the solid content of the functionalized sol-gel material is increased by transferring the same into another solvent. Therefore, a thick sol-gel film is fabricated by means of the transferred functionalized sol-gel material.
