A system and method adaptively control sensitivity, on a pixel-by-pixel basis, of a digital imager. An illumination intensity level mapping controller determines a number of pixels of image data having illumination intensity levels within a first defined range of illumination intensity levels and determines an illumination intensity level mapping function based upon the determined number of pixels within the first defined range of illumination intensity levels. An exposure controller determines a number of pixels having illumination intensity levels within a second defined range of illumination intensity levels and determines an integration time based upon the determined number of pixels having illumination intensity levels within the second defined range of illumination intensity levels. A transfer control function generation circuit determines a composite transfer control function based on the determined integration time and determined illumination intensity level mapping function; determines each transition point between a plurality of discrete transfer control functions from the determined integration time and the determined illumination intensity level mapping function; and imposes the determined transfer control function upon a pixel of the digital imager.

Extended flicker cancellation for auto exposure for a video camera

A video camera includes a light collection array including a plurality of light collection cells configured to collect light from a scene and a processor coupled to the light collection array. The processor is configured determine a brightness of the scene based on the light collected by the light collection array from the scene. Based on the determined brightness, the processor is configured to determine if the brightness of the scene requires a light collection time of each cell to be less than a flicker on time of a light source lighting the scene so that the light collection array collects a sufficient amount of light so that a brightness of a video stream or a still image is substantially at a predetermined level. If the light collection time is determined to be less than the flicker on time to maintain brightness of the video stream or the still image at the predetermined level and if the brightness of the scene is less than a predetermined brightness, the processor is configured to set the light collection time at the flicker on time of the light source. If the light collection time is determined to be less than the flicker on time to maintain brightness of the video stream or the still image at the predetermined level and if the brightness of the scene is at, or greater than, the predetermined brightness, the processor is configured to set the light collection time less than the flicker on time of the light source.

The underwater glider navigation system provided by the invention has the complete and integrated sensor part, supports high-performance navigation, and meets the platform stable control application requirement. In regard to on-line accelerated speed and vibration accelerated speed noise suppression, because of high-precision calibration, the system can provide high-precision information in a complicated and changeable underwater environment, and the complexity and the cost are remarkably reduced.
