Method of Optimum Controlled Outlet, Impingement Cooling and Sealing of a Heat Shield and a Heat Shield Element

There is described a method for cooling and sealing of a heat shield element, comprising a main wall with an inner side, which is restricted by side walls or rims, and an outer side, which can be exposed to a hot fluid, and wherein a coolant is introduced into an impingement region of that heat shield element and an impingement flow of said coolant is directed on a surface area of that inner side through a plurality of impingement holes, effecting an impingement pressure drop. In the method discharge flow is metered through a number of discharge holes through said side wall or rims from the inner side to the outer side of the main wall, generating a discharge pressure drop in series with the impingement pressure drop. The impingement pressure drop and the discharge pressure drop are matched to one another so that a required coolant flow is generated which yields a required predetermined heat-transfer coefficient of the main wall. Discharging coolant into the gaps between side opposing walls of neighbouring heat shield elements only allows for an effective sealing against hot gas pingestion. Furthermore, the invention relates to a heat shield element, preferably to a single chamber or double chamber metallic heat shield element, which can be exposed to hot gases. In particular the heat shield element is suitable for being used in a combustion chamber of a gas turbine installation.

Method and apparatus for a high resolution downhole spectrometer

The present invention provides a simple, robust, and versatile high-resolution spectrometer that is suitable for downhole use. The present invention provides a method and apparatus incorporating a spinning, oscillating or stepping optical interference filter to change the angle at which light passes through the filters after passing through a sample under analysis downhole. As each filter is tilted, the color or wavelength of light passed by the filter changes. Black plates are placed between the filters to isolate each filter's photodiode. The spectrometer of the present invention is suitable for use with a wire line formation tester, such as the Baker Atlas Reservation Characterization Instrument to provide supplemental analysis and monitoring of sample clean up. The present invention is also suitable for deployment in a monitoring while drilling environment. The present invention provides a high resolution spectometer which enables quantification of a crude oil's percentage of aromatics, olefins, and saturates to estimate a sample's gas oil ratio (GOR). Gases such as CO2 are also detectable. The percentage of oil-based mud filtrate contamination in a crude oil sample can be estimated with the present invention by using a suitable training set and chemometrics, a neural network, or other type of correlation method.

Micro fluidic valves, agitators, and pumps and methods thereof

A valve which has a structure with at least one opening and a member which has a fixed static charge and also has a first position exposing the opening and a second position sealing the opening. A method for making the valve includes providing a structure with at least one opening and providing a member having a fixed static charge where the member has a first position exposing the opening and a second position sealing the opening. An agitator includes a base with at least one trench, a structure with at least one opening, and a membrane with a fixed static charge. The structure is connected to the base over the trench with the opening in the structure extending through to the trench in the base. The membrane is connected to the base across at least a portion of the trench. A pump includes a base with at least one trench, a structure with at least two openings, a membrane with a fixed static charge, a first cantilever arm having a fixed static charge, and a second cantilever arm having a fixed static charge. The structure is connected to the base over the trench with the openings in the structure extending through to the trench in the base. The membrane is connected to the base across at least a portion of the trench. The first cantilever arm has a first position exposing one of the openings and a second position sealing the one of the openings. The second cantilever arm has a first position exposing another one of the openings and a second position sealing the another one of the openings.

Electrical connector assembly

The present invention provides an electrical connector assembly and a method of mating the same. The electrical connector assembly includes a panel sub-assembly which mates to at least one electrical connector body. Preferably two cam leveraging devices which rotate in opposing directions are mounted rotatably to the panel sub-assembly for sliding engagement of respective cam studs engaged rigidly to the electrical connector body. Opposing rotations of the cam leveraging devices along respective and parallel rotation axes causes the panel sub-assembly to move linearly along a mating axis disposed orthogonally to the rotation axes and toward the electrical connector body to a staged position. During linear panel sub-assembly movement from the disconnected position to the staged position, the cam studs slide against a first portion of a track carried by respective cam levers and which generally spirals radially inward toward the rotation axis. Reversing rotation of both cam leveraging devices causes the panel sub-assembly to continue linear movement toward the electrical connector body from the staged position and to a mated position. During linear panel sub-assembly movement from the staged position to the mated position, the cam stud lifts off of the first portion, and is caught by and slides along a second portion of the track to a mated end.
