Pixelated phase-mask interferometer

A phase-difference sensor measures the spatially resolved difference in phase between orthogonally polarized reference and test wavefronts. The sensor is constructed as a pixelated phase-mask aligned to and imaged on a pixelated detector array. Each adjacent pixel of the phase-mask measures a predetermined relative phase shift between the orthogonally polarized reference and test beams. Thus, multiple phase-shifted interferograms can be synthesized at the same time by combining pixels with identical phase-shifts. The multiple phase-shifted interferograms can be combined to calculate standard parameters such as modulation index or average phase step. Any configuration of interferometer that produces orthogonally polarized reference and object beams may be combined with the phase-difference sensor of the invention to provide, single-shot, simultaneous phase-shifting measurements.

Source adaptive system and method for 2D iDCT

This invention discloses a fast two-dimensional inverse Discrete Cosine Transform (iDCT) that adapts to compressed video source statistics to reduce execution time. iDCT algorithms for sparse blocks eliminate calculations for some zero coefficients and are implemented with quad-word parallel single-instruction-multiple-data (SIMD) multimedia instructions. It is observed that end-of-block marker value histograms vary little within single shots. An adaptive control mechanism is proposed that selects the optimal set of iDCTs to prepare for an entire shot from its first frames (to reduce software overheads and penalties). This introduces no degradation of decoded video quality as compared with a conventional SIMD 8×8 iDCT implemented with Intel MMX instructions.

Method for compressive sensing , reconstruction, and estimation of ultra-wideband channels

The method for compressive sensing (CS) and reconstruction of ultra-wideband (UWB) channels includes building four practically-based dictionaries related to the antenna angles of transmission and angles of arrival that enhance the sparsity of UWB signals. The dictionaries account for the practical effects of the channel, such as pulse dispersion and the unavoidable effects of the antenna. Utilizing the practically-based dictionaries CS is able to reconstruct the UWB signals more efficiently with reasonable complexity. In addition to waveform reconstruction, the dictionaries are used for channel estimation. The CS method can be used with either a single-shot full profile correlator or a Rake receiver. The Rake receiver employs CS in adjusting its parameters to take advantage of the energy available in the strongest propagation paths.

Panoramic three-dimensional adapter for an optical instrument and a combination of such an adapter and such an optical instrument

An adapter is provided for adapting an optical instrument, such as a camera (3) or a projector, to capture or display panoramic three-dimensional images. The adapter comprises a plurality of mirrors (1a, 1b, 1c), each of which has a reflective surface which is in the shape of a curved non-circular conic section rotated about an axis of symmetry (15a, 15b, 15c). The reflective surfaces have first foci which are spaced perpendicularly from a longitudinal axis of the adapter and which are angularly spaced around the longitudinal axis. For example, the conic section may be a hyperbola with first foci equidistantly spaced from the longitudinal axis and equiangularly spaced around 15b the longitudinal axis. The axes of symmetry (15a, 15b, 15c) of the mirrors (1a, 1b, 1c) converge to intersect the longitudinal axis at a point which is coincident with the front principal point of, for example, a camera lens (12). Thus, single shot capture of all the image data for the or each panoramic three-dimensional image may be performed.

Wafer, semiconductor chip, and semiconductor device manufacturing method

Scribe lines demarcating semiconductor chips comprise, in both the vertical direction and the horizontal direction, first-type scribe lines of the minimum width enabling cutting by dicing or other means, and second-type scribe lines enabling placement of TEGs, alignment marks or other accessories, and a placement pattern is set so that a unit cell which can be exposed in a single shot comprises one second-type scribe line. By this means, the area occupied by scribe lines can be reduced. Further, by decreasing the number of placement of semiconductor chips constituting a unit cell, and by cutting substantially along the center line of second-type scribe lines, the shapes of scribe lines on the periphery of semiconductor chips can be changed, so that the position in the unit cell can be determined.
