selection method for ideal
plant types of New Indic Rice in the rice areas of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. According to the ecological characteristics of the growing seasons of the rice in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, a selection mode and a field selection index are provided for the
plant types of one-season Indic rice grains during the yellow maturity period. The key point of the invention is that a selection with three-high: high growing quantity, high storage quantity and high filling degree is established; according to the three-
high mode, quantitative selection indexes for the individual and group plants are established. The individual selection indexes are shown as follows: big, erecting, sparse,
solid, excellence and resistance; the selection indexes for the group plants are presented as follows; enough, strong, penetration, elegant and standing. When the
single plant is selected, the comprehensive property is investigated; meanwhile, the behavior of individual
plant in the group is also investigated; when the group plant is selected, the group structure is investigated and the
single plant property is investigated at the same time. Individual plants are selected out of excellent group plants and the group plant is established by excellent individual plants; the process is repeatedly promoted to all seed raising generations, thus improving the selection effect. The improvement of single property is developed to the establishment of the comprehensive property; the
qualitative analysis of configuration is developed as quantitative selection of the plant factors; the pure
configuration design is developed as the improvement of comprehensive function, thus establishing the frame for the comprehensive selection of the ideal plant type of the New Indic Rice.
