A water resistant structural board suitable for use in a wall system is disclosed. The structural board has water drainage channels on at least one of its surfaces to drain any water trapped behind the sealed wall system. The water drainage channels may be imparted into the structural board during or applied subsequent to a board production process, and the produced board is shipped to the construction site for a wall installation. When desired, the channeled surface of the structural board may be laminated, coated, or sprayed with a water resistant layer to further enhance the water resistant property of the board. A wall system including the disclosed structural board does not require a layer-by-layer installation of a component having water resistant property and a component having water drainage channel structure at a work site; therefore, labor cost and installation time may be reduced significantly. Examples of structural boards are oriented strand board, plywood, particle board, oriented strand lumber, dimensional lumber, fiberboard, wafer board, chipboard, laminated veneer lumber, and any substantially equivalent wood composite board known in art.

The laminate is produced by pulling the fibers through a resin injection box, where a polyurethane resin is injected into the box to wet the fibers. The polyurethane resin wetted fiber layer is then covered with a release media on the top and bottom sides of the layer. The sandwich of fiber, resin and release media is fed to a double belt press capable of applying pressure and heat to consolidate and cure the laminate. The laminate thus made can be thinner than 0.080 inch and provides excellent flatness compared to pultruded thin laminates.

The blockboard manufactured by the method has a good flame retardant property and a small number of influences on texture properties; moreover, the method has the advantages of simplicity, easy application, short production period, high efficiency and low cost.

A method of manufacturing glued laminated wood such as laminated veneer lumber (LVL) is disclosed. The glued laminated wood is made of a number of wood sheets such as veneer sheets which are laminated together by a hot press with a thermosetting adhesive into a continuous length of multiple-layered board wherein the end joints of the wood sheets are disposed in a staggered array. There is provided an initial base material having an end which is shaped in the form of a flight of steps including a series of alternate horizontal surface having a lengthwise dimension smaller than the length of the wood sheet and a vertical surface having a height corresponding to the wood sheet thickness, and the glued laminated wood board is formed extending from the end of such initial base material. The hot press includes a pair of heat plates each having an effective pressing area capable of covering the entire surface of the wood sheet. In hot pressing a wood sheet having on one surface thereof coated with adhesive, a board of the glued laminated wood in progress is placed and maintained for a predetermined length of time at a position where the entire top surface of the wood sheet is kept to be pressed from the top by one of the plates while the entire lower surface of the wood sheet is supported from the bottom by the other plate.

The invention provides a manufacturing method of an I-shaped wood laminated veneer lumber (LVL). The manufacturing method comprises the following steps: adjusting the water content of wood veneers to be 5-15%; coating a phenolic resin adhesive or urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin adhesive on the surfaces of the wood veneers, laminating and assembling the wood veneers in parallel along the grain, cold pressing to obtain a core strip board blank, and sawing the board blank into core strips with the width of 10-45cm; coating a phenolic resin adhesive on the surface of complete sheet veneers at even-numbered layers; assembling the veneers in parallel along the grain to obtain a face veneer of the LVL, and vertically placing the core strips on the face veneer to be taken as a core layer of the LVL; and hot-pressing the assembled board blank at the temperature of 150-180 DEG C and the pressure of 1.2-1.4 MPa for 15-35s / mm to finally obtain the I-shaped LVL. In the manufacturing method, anisotropy of wood is fully utilized so as to greatly improve the strength of the fast-growing wood LVL without increasing a reinforcing material, and the obtained product meets the requirements of the structural LVL standard in China. Therefore, the manufacturing method provided by the invention has the advantages of high utilization ratio of raw materials, short production cycle and low production energy consumption.

The starch gum of the invention is made of the material components with the weight portions of 100 portions of starch, 0.4-1.2 portions of alkali, 1-3 portions of oxidant, 0.5-1 portions of initiator, 8-20 portions of grafting agent and 0.2-0.5 portions of preservative. In the preparation method, starch suspension liquid is obtained; alkali is added for activating the suspension liquid; pH value is adjusted; oxidizer is selected for oxidizing the activated starch suspension liquid; the initiator is introduced; polymer monomeric compound is adopted for grafting. High residual content (HRC) kraft/soda lignin as an ingredient in wood adhesives

Most processes currently being proposed and / or used for the production of lignin from kraft or soda black liquors are capable of producing two main types of lignin: high residual content (HRC) lignin and low residual content (LRC) lignin. Surprisingly, it was discovered that HRC lignin, is a suitable ingredient in alkaline adhesives, particularly wood adhesives of the phenolic type (e.g. resole resins). This biomaterial is environmentally green and remarkably low cost, which makes it an industrially viable material to be used as a novel and major ingredient in phenolic adhesives for the manufacture of exterior grade plywood, laminated veneer lumber, oriented strand board (OSB) and other wood products—this was successfully demonstrated in a number of laboratory experiments as well as several different mill trials. The composition, preparation and application of such wood adhesives are hereby disclosed.
