Phospholipid based powders for drug delivery applications are disclosed. The powders comprise a polyvalent cation in an amount effective to increase the gel-to-liquid crystal transition temperature of the particle compared to particles without the polyvalent cation. The powders are hollow and porous and are preferably administered via inhalation.

Encapsulated colorants for waterborne coating compositions are provided as a system and kit with a method for tinting the water borne coating compositions. The encapsulated colorant comprises at least one water dispersible tinting material to be released into the based coating composition upon dissolution of the encapsulating layer to give the coating composition color. The present inventions relates to a solid composition and an aqueous dispersion comprising nanoparticles of the anti-retroviral drugs lopinavir and ritonavir. The solid composition and aqueous dispersion additionally comprise a mixture of a hydrophilic polymer and a surfactant. Novel organosilicon-treated cosmetic powders, for example, a pigment, extender pigment or filler are free from residual hydrogen, have a smooth feel, good skin adhesion, good color and spreadability and resistance to acids and alkalis. The treated powders are useful in cosmetics such as powder formulations, oil-in-water and water-in-oil emulsions, anhydrous make-up and lipstick. Treatment can be effected with a linear reactive alkylpolysiloxane having substituted in repeating units in the backbone of the molecule both cationic and anionic groups, for example aminoethylaminopropyl and alkoxy groups. The invention provides low protein and protein-free liquid creamer compositions, and processes for making them. The liquid creamer composition includes an emulsifying component comprising a combination of at least two low molecular weight emulsifiers; a hydrocolloid system comprising microcrystalline cellulose (MCC)/carboxymethylcellulose (CMC)/carrageenan; a chelating system comprising at least one chelating agent of an organic or inorganic acid or organic or inorganic acid salt; a buffer system comprising at least one buffering agent; and a whitening agent in an amount sufficient to provide additional whitening to an aqueous media to which the creamer is added. The composition has a vegetable oil content of about 0.1% to about 33% by weight of the composition and a protein content of no more than 3% by weight of the composition. The composition is in the form of an aseptic liquid creamer that is shelf-stable for at least nine months, and provides high whitening capacity and a pleasant mouth-feel with no discernable feathering or fat separation when added to aqueous media of beverages at different pHs, hardnesses and temperatures.

A process for the preparation of modified nanoclay in one case comprises the steps of providing an organoclay, dispersing the organoclay in a solvent or mixture of solvents and/or surfactant, providing nariotubes or nanowires, dispersing the nanotubes or nanowires in a solvent or mixture of solvents and/or surfactant, and mixing the organoclay suspension with the nanotube and/or nanowire suspension.
