Endoscope with fiber optic transmission of digital video

A video endoscope in which the imaging chip at the distal tip is connected to the proximal connector and operator console by an optical fiber. Video data (preferably digital) is impressed on the optical fiber by a pulse-code modulator (PCM) circuit and light emitter with lensing. A small, inexpensive, flexible optical fiber in the endoscope body conveys the PCM optical data to the receiving circuit, preferably via an optical connector at the proximal end of the endoscope, and to decoding and display circuits in the operator console. The fiber optic transmission overcomes the difficulty of electrical transmission of wide band (digital video) signals via miniature cables, which can be expensive, bulky, inflexible, susceptible to noise and interference, and constitute a potential electrical safety risk by leakage currents. The PCM circuits may be integrated into the camera chip.

Self learning radio frequency monitoring system for identifying and locating faults in electrical distribution systems

Electrical faults are detected in electrical distribution systems (EDS) by detection and location of radio frequency (RF) emissions generated by the fault with multiple time-synchronized radio frequency monitors (RFM) distributed about the EDS. The RFMs are coupled to a self-learning, electrical fault monitor (EFM) that characterizes and / or locates electrical faults based on operating state (OS) patterns learned from transmission of test signals generated within the EDS. RF emissions data samples are characterized as safe operation (SO) states or potential electrical faults by accessing a base of stored knowledge concerning fault emission characteristics and / or synchronized time of arrival at each RFM. Information in the base of stored knowledge is updated to include new EDS operating states (OS). Confidence level associations, location of new radio frequency emission patterns and whether those patterns are indicative of safe operating (SO) conditions or electrical faults are stored in the base of stored knowledge.

Reduced capacitance resistors

A method for reducing the parasitic capacitance in resistors, and a resistor design embodying this method are described. By creating a p-type or an n-type implant inside of an n-well or a p-substrate, respectively, where the n-well or p-substrate is located in a p-substrate or n-substrate, respectively, a capacitively coupled capacitor is formed in series connection with the parasitic inter-layer dielectric capacitance generated when the resistor is fabricated in the dielectric material. Method for in-line monitoring of via/contact holes etch process based on test structures in semiconductor wafer manufacturing

A method for in-line monitoring of via / contact etching process based on a test structure is described. The test structure is comprised of via / contact holes of different sizes and densities in a layout such that, for a certain process, the microloading or RIE lag induced non-uniform etch rate produce under-etch in some regions and over-etch in others. Tolerance of shifting or deformation of this image can be set for validating the process uniformity. This image can also be used as a measure to monitor long-term process parameter shifting, as well as wafer-to-wafer or lot-to-lot variations.
