Non-resonant four degrees-of-freedom micromachined gyroscope

A micromachined design and method with inherent disturbance-rejection capabilities is based on increasing the degrees-of-freedom (DOF) of the oscillatory system by the use of two independently oscillating proof masses. Utilizing dynamical amplification in the 4-degrees-of-freedom system, inherent disturbance rejection is achieved, providing reduced sensitivity to structural and thermal parameter fluctuations and damping changes over the operating time of the device. In the proposed system, the first mass is forced to oscillate in the drive direction, and the response of the second mass in the orthogonal direction is sensed. The response has two resonant peaks and a flat region between peaks. Operation is in the flat region, where the gain is insensitive to frequency fluctuations. An over 15 times increase in the bandwidth of the system is achieved due to the use of the proposed architecture. In addition, the gain in the operation region has low sensitivity to damping changes. Consequently, by utilizing the disturbance-rejection capability of the dynamical system, improved robustness is achieved, which can relax tight fabrication tolerances and packaging requirements and thus result in reducing production cost of micromachined methods.

Serial tunneling protocol (STP) flow control in SAS expanders without SATA link state machine

A method and apparatus are disclosed for implementing STP flow control in SAS expander devices. SAS expanders are commonly used within a SAS network topology to allow multiple disk drives to connect to multiple host devices. Connections to a SATA HDD are supported using SATA Tunnelling Protocol (STP), which allows SATA traffic to be carried over a SAS network topology. Flow control in a STP connection is applied through a set of special SATA primitives, both for forward and backward flow control. A method is described herein in which STP flow control is supported without the use of a SATA link layer state machine. System and method for selecting winning tickets in a lottery game

Use of the present invention provides a method and system for selecting the winning tickets in a lottery game. The method adds to traditional lottery games a social network element, which will influence the winning ticket selection process. The top prize level is still determined by a traditional random draw, but lower-level prizes are determined based on a ticket-holder's proximity in the social network to players that won the higher-level prizes. In a simple form the 2nd level prizes will go to players that have direct connections in the social network (friends) to a 1st prize winner. Players can manage their social network independently from purchasing the tickets. Traditional sales outlets may be used for ticket sale. Pre-existing social networks may be utilized in the dedicated social network for the game.
