Multiply charged ions are trapped and accumulated in a spatially limited region before being injected into an ion trap mass spectrometer such as a Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer (FTICR MS). In the ion trap electron capture dissociation (ECD) and vibrational excitation dissociation are sequentially applied on ions of the same ion ensemble. The first dissociation process does not fragment all primary ions. Following the detection of the dissociation products, the primary ions that remain undissociated undergo the vibrational excitation and again, a part of them dissociate, and the fragments are detected. Thus, the same ion ensemble is used for two fragmentation processes. During these processes, further ions generated in the external ion source are accumulated in the spatially limited region for subsequent analyses.

A method for extracting proteins from heterogeneous fluids by precipitation using microfluidics. The method uses an automated protocol for precipitation of proteins onto surfaces, rinsing the precipitates to remove impurities, and resolubilization in buffer for further analysis. The method is compatible with proteins representing a range of different physicochemical properties, as well as with complex mixtures such as fetal bovine serum and cell lysate. In all cases, the quantitative performance (measured using a fluorescent assay for % recovery) was comparable to that of conventional techniques, which are manual and require more time.

The method comprises: pre-splitting a body of the markup language document into plurality parts; scanning each of the plurality parts, wherein while each of the parts is scanned, the scanning of the part is stopped only when a specific mark is found, and then a stop point at which the scanning is stopped is recorded; splitting the body of the markup language document into a plurality of fragments using the respective stop points; parsing the plurality of fragments in parallel and producing parsing results for the respective fragments; and combining the parsing results for the respective fragments to form a parsing result for the markup language document. A microfabricated mass-sensitive chemical preconcentrator actively measures the mass of a sample on an acoustic microbalance during the collection process. The microbalance comprises a chemically sensitive interface for collecting the sample thereon and an acoustic-based physical transducer that provides an electrical output that is proportional to the mass of the collected sample. The acoustic microbalance preferably comprises a pivot plate resonator. A resistive heating element can be disposed on the chemically sensitive interface to rapidly heat and release the collected sample for further analysis. Therefore, the mass-sensitive chemical preconcentrator can optimize the sample collection time prior to release to enable the rapid and accurate analysis of analytes by a microanalytical system.
