Ostium stent system

An ostium stent system includes a stent having a tubular body at the distal portion of the stent and a flaring portion at the proximal portion of the stent. A restraining structure that deploys the flaring portion covers only the proximal portion of the stent, providing a low profile for smooth delivery of the stent to the treatment site. The flaring portion comprises at least one flaring member which each comprise a short segment and a long segment. In an unexpanded configuration, each short and long segment are parallel to a longitudinal axis of the tubular body. When the flaring portion is deployed, each short segment remains parallel while each long segment becomes perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the tubular body. The short segments therefore absorb the radial force resulting from deployment of the long segments and thereby prevent the stent from lifting off the balloon.

Apparatus system and method for installing and retrieving pipe in a well

Pipe used in drilling and / or completing wells is stored in long rectilinear segments or strings in the space adjacent a drilling rig being used to construct a well. The pipe is introduced into the well, or extracted from the well, in long segments made up of multiple individual pipe sections. In one embodiment, long rectilinear segments of pipe are bent into a curve that extends from the rig to the space surrounding the rig, where the pipe re-assumes its rectilinear shape. The curve radius is greater than the pipe's yielding bending radius. On a water-based rig, the pipe is received in the water surrounding the rig where it may be stored, tested, inspected, reassembled, treated, and / or otherwise processed. The pipe may be received within a long pipe storage sleeve that is buoyed laterally at or below the water surface or it may be secured to a guy line anchored between the rig and the water bottom. In deepwater applications, long sections of the pipe are stored vertically in the water area between the surface drilling rig and the water bottom. The pipe may also be stored within vertically oriented storage sleeves. In a modified form of the invention, the long pipe sections are moved laterally for storage in the area between the rig and the water bottom without being first pulled to the water surface. The bottom of each stored section is made up or broken out at the subsea wellhead. The pipe section may also be stored within the riser.

Intraluminal flexible stent device

A stent made up of at least two connected bands, each band having a pattern of undulations formed from long, short and mid-sized segments connected together by turns. In particular, the pattern includes a repeating series having five segments: a long segment, a short segment, a mid-sized segment, a mid-sized segment, a short segment (LSMMS). When adjacent bands are connected together to form the stent body, the LSMMS segment configuration forms a series of consecutive tapered gaps between the consecutive unconnected close ended turns of adjacent bands which provide greater flexibility for the stent. The series of consecutive tapered gaps allow the stent to flex with little or no interference with adjacent bands when the stent is tracked around a small radius bend in a vessel. In addition, the length of the longest rigid element of the stent is decreased to further improve flexibility. A rigid element is formed by the lengths of the segments on both sides of a connection between adjacent bands. By decreasing the length of this rigid element, the length which must be tracked around the bends of a vessel is shortened and thus the stent is easier to advance.

System and method for fast code phase and carrier frequency acquisition in GPS receiver

A GPS receiver acquires carrier frequency and Gold code phase using short segments of a received GPS signal. In one embodiment, a 1-ms segment of the GPS signal is transformed to the frequency domain. This is multiplied by a frequency representation of the Gold code. The resulting product is converted to the time domain, and a peak is detected. The location of the peak corresponds to the code phase. If no peak is located, the carrier frequency is changed. Full- and half-bin steps in carrier frequency are considered. Processing gain is achieved by using longer segments of the input signal, for example 4 or 16 ms and integrating 1-ms segments. Considerations are provided for compensating for the effects of a transition, should it occur in the short segment of the GPS signal being processed. Integrations can be performed using non-coherent and coherent techniques. Adjustments are made for non-integral millisecond segment lengths.

Breathable, waterproof horse blanket

An impermeable horse blanket includes mesh material for ventilation of the horse's back while it is covered by the blanket. The mesh material is shielded by a waterproof top cover that protects it and prevents water from wetting the horse while allowing breathing through the openings of the mesh. The front edge of the top cover is attached to the blanket by means of a continuous seam along a front hem that encases a length of plastic piping sufficiently thick to provide a relief structure for raising the front edge of the cover slightly with respect to the blanket and the mesh material. The top cover is also stitched to the blanket at discrete points around its sides and back edge, such that relatively long segments of the side and back perimeter are not attached to the blanket. Thus, an air stream produced by wind or the horse's motion is able to flow between the top cover and the mesh material, thereby producing desirable ventilation while still protecting the back of the horse from rain. The netting material also ensures that insects and debris cannot infiltrate the blanket.
