Rhododendron mucronulatum, the Korean rhododendron or Korean rosebay (Chinese: 银叶杜鹃; pinyin: yínyè dùjuān), is a rhododendron species native to Korea, Mongolia, Russia, and parts of northern China. It is a deciduous shrub that grows to 1–2 m (3.3–6.6 ft) in height, with elliptic or elliptic-lanceolate leaves, 3–7 cm (1 ¹⁄₄–2 ³⁄₄ in) long by 1–3.5 cm (³⁄₈–1 ³⁄₈ in) wide. The method includes the following steps; using a mixture of peat, perlite and vermiculite as a substrate; acquiring top branches with buds from canopy of plants in autumn or early spring, and cutting the top branches into cutting shoots having the length of 7-9 cm; removing a part of leaves, performing single-face healing treatment on the base of the cutting shoots, and then using 100 mg.L-1 IBA aqueous solution to soak the cutting shoots for 16 hours; instantly performing cuttage after treatment of the cutting shoots, wherein the spacing between rows is 8X8 cm, and the cuttage depth is 2 / 3 of the length of the cutting shoots; and using an automatic intermittent spraying system to supply water and increase the humidity during a rooting period, wherein the temperature is controlled at 15.0-20.0 DEG C, the relative humidity is 85.0-95.0%, and the Rhododendron simsii is sprayed with a bactericide every 14 days. The method can effectively solve the problem that the conventional Subsect. Maddenia Rhododendron simsii cutting propagation method is difficult to root, is low in rooting rate, and is few in root systems; the rooting rate can reach over 90%, and the root systems are developed; and the method is simple to operate, is low in cost, and can be used for industrialization seedling of the Rhododendron simsii.

Disclosed is a method for tissue culture of rhododendron. The tissue culture method comprises the steps that: step 1: rhododendron explant material is collected, and placed on a supper-clean bench after being treated; the rhododendron explant material is disinfected by alcohol with a concentration of 75 percent for 6 to 8 seconds, washed by sterile water for three times, disinfected by 0.001 litre of mercury for 6 to 8 minutes, and washed by sterile water for three times in order; step 2: the material after being disinfected and cut is implanted into bud induce culture medium for thirty days; 30 days later, the obtained material is then implanted into proliferation culture medium for 60 days; step 3: healthy and strong rhododendron seedlings cut with 2 to 3cm by height are implanted into a rooting culture medium for 45 days; step 4: after the newborn root of rhododendron is about 0.5 cm long, the culture medium attached to the root is cleaned and newborn root is moved into sterile thick sand, the air humidity of which is kept ranging from 75 percent to 85 percent; one week later, the newborn root is moved into the mixed material of turfy soil and perlite; 45 days later, the treated root is moved into the field where the root is under the shade for one week. The method can realize industrial culture of seedling within 6 to 7 mouths and mass production of shipshape nursery stock of rhododendron.
