A gel-filled seismic streamer containing a hydroplane housing which isolates a hydrophone element from shear waves and mechanical forces but sensitive to pressure waves. In one embodiment, the gel-filled streamers contains a hydrophone housing with an air pocket at each end for isolating a pressure sensitive hydrophone element from mechanical noise generated by cable movement during seismic data acquisition operations. The hydrophone housing further provides a protective case to isolate a pressure-sensitive hydrophone element from shear waves. An inlet formed in the protective hydrophone housing enables pressure waves to be communicated to the pressure sensitive hydrophone element inside of the housing. In one embodiment, the pressure sensitive hydrophone element is a hollow gel-filled cylinder that expands radially outward into a second air gap formed in the housing. A protective case is also provided to isolate the hydrophone housing from shear waves. An alternative hydrophone housing for deployment inside of a streamer is also disclosed which fixably positions a positioning hydrophone or seismic hydrophone within the housing using rubber supports.

A method of mounting an accelerometer to an internal combustion engine comprises securing the accelerometer to a mating surface on an engine component external to a combustion chamber where the accelerometer can generate a signal output that is characteristic of engine knock, when it occurs, and at least one other combustion behavior inside the combustion chamber during a combustion event. The method further comprises connecting a signal wire at one end to the accelerometer and at an opposite end to a signal processor, and increasing the signal output's signal-to-noise ratio.

The apparatus employs the remote field eddy-current (RFEC) inspection technique to electromagnetically measure physical parameters of a metallic pipe. RFEC devices inserted into and displaced along a cylindrical pipes may be used to measure the ratio of pipe thickness to electromagnetic skin-depth and thus allow for the non-invasive detection of flaws or metal loss. Typically these RFEC thickness measurements exhibit a so-called double-indication of flaws, an undesired artifact due to a double-peaked geometrical sensitivity function of the device. The method describes a means by which this double indication artifact may be removed by an appropriate processing of RFEC measurements performed by an apparatus specifically designed for this purpose. The invention is particularly well designed for applications in the oilfield industry.

The present invention relates to a dual polarization broadband antenna having a single pattern, which is provide with a radiation device having a square structure, in which a plurality of folded dipole elements are formed in a single continuously-connected pattern, and a feeding portion for feeding signals to the plurality of folded dipole elements is formed on the radiation device. Accordingly, the plurality of folded dipole elements formed on the radiation device are connected in a single square and rectangular pattern, so that the structure thereof is simplified, with the result that the cost can be reduced. Furthermore, the feeding portion, that dually feeds signals, and the plurality of folded dipole elements, connected in a single pattern, are coupled, so that the dual polarization characteristic can be easily acquired. Furthermore, currents input to the feeding points of the feeding portion are induced only to the folded dipole elements without having to flow into other feeding points, so that excellent isolation can be achieved.

A spin torque oscillation magnetoresistive sensor for measuring a magnetic field. The sensor uses a change in precessional oscillation frequency of a magnetization of a magnetic layer to determine the magnitude of a magnetic field. The sensor can include a magnetic free layer, a magnetic pinned layer and a non-magnetic layer sandwiched therebetween. Circuitry is connected with these layers to induce an electrical current through the layers. Spin polarization of electrons traveling through the device causes a spin torque induced precession of the magnetization of one or more of the layers. The frequency of this oscillation modulates in response to a magnetic field. The modulation of the oscillation frequency can be measured to detect the presence of the magnetic field, and determine its magnitude.

A method and system for controlling lateral tilt of a header of an agricultural machine, uses gauge wheels or skids on lateral ends of the header in combination with operation in a free float mode for maintaining uniform cut height across the header, and automatically changes to a controlled tilt mode when one or more conditions for that mode is present. During operation in the controlled tilt mode, if a condition or conditions for free float is present, the system will operate in that mode. The system can also optionally damp relative up and down movements of the gauge wheels or skids and the header on each end, and can limit the tilt in the free float mode.

A tunable optical filter for simulating the waveband spectrums of selected substances. The filter includes an optical waveguide with a core material for transmitting light energy and a nominal core refractive index for the core material. Predetermined periodic variations are formed in the core material of the optical waveguide between the input and output ends that alter the core refractive index of the waveguide at the location of the periodic variations. Depending upon the periodic variations, the waveguide produces a predetermined reference waveband spectrum output that matches the waveband spectrum of a selected substance. A modulator is coupled to the waveguide to selectively modulate the periodic variations to intermittently shift the reference waveband spectrum output to fine tune the filter and reduce signal noise. The filter is useful as a reference cell for correlation spectroscopy, DIAL LIDAR, equipment calibration, and other uses where a predetermined or known waveband spectrum is useful or desirable.

High aspect ratio touch sensor panels are disclosed in which multiple row electrode blocks can be formed in a single row within an active area of the touch sensor panel, each row electrode block including a plurality of vertically adjacent row electrodes, or in some instances only one row electrode. A sensor system for determining a parameter of a fluid medium, e.g., an intake air mass flowing through a channel, includes at least one sensor chip situated in the channel for determining the parameter, which sensor chip is accommodated in a sensor carrier which (i) protrudes into the channel and (ii) has a leading edge situated transverse to the flow of the fluid medium. At least one vortex generator is provided, at least in the region of the leading edge, and configured for forming secondary flows in the flowing fluid medium in the region of the sensor carrier, for avoiding or reducing the entry of particles. The secondary flows extend in a plane essentially perpendicular to the main flow direction of the fluid medium, e.g., facing away from the sensor area.

The invention provides a method of analysing a complex hydrocarbon-containing mixture, the method comprising the steps of: obtaining a liquid sample of the complex hydrocarbon-containing mixture; injecting the sample into a liquid carrier flowing to a mass spectrometer, wherein the mass spectrometer is set so as to ionise molecules in the sample without causing fragmentation thereof; recording a mass spectrum for ions obtained from the sample; and using the mass spectrum to obtain fingerprint of the mixture. {dot over (a)}In one embodiment, two or more mass spectra are recorded and are combined to obtain a fingerprint of the mixture.

Computer controlled methods, systems and apparatus for detecting an infectious agent in a host cell, an animal cell, or plant cell, a body fluid or tissue sample to provide information useful to diagnose a disease or prognosticate disease susceptibility, extent or outcome are provided. In one illustrative embodiment, the infected animal cell is a Chlamydia infected mononuclear phagocyte in a blood sample. In another illustrative embodiment, the infected body fluid is a blood sample infected with “fee floating”Chlamydia. Detection and preferably, quantification of such an infected mononuclear phagocyte(s) or blood sample provides information useful in diagnosing or prognosticating susceptibility, extent or outcome of patients suspected of suffering from vascular, coronary or central nervous disease(s) or disorder(s).
