System and method for locating a closest server in response to a client domain name request

A scalable system and method for locating a closest server in response to a client request via an interactive distribution network, such as the Internet, are provided. A closest content server is defined as having the least round trip time for responding to a client request. The system including a plurality of content servers; and a local server in communication with a plurality of clients, the local server acting as a proxy for communicating client requests from clients to a redirection server. Client network distance and load information is periodically collected at each content server in the network from clients communicating with each of the respective content servers. The redirection server periodically aggregates the network distance and load information from each content server to create client clusters from both current and previously aggregated network distance and load information. Each client cluster represents a division or partition of the total IP address space. Each client cluster is then mapped (paired) to one or more content servers in the network. The mapping or pairing is then utilized to respond to client DN requests received from any client in the network. Another aspect of the invention involves considering the respective capacities of the content servers in the network. A selection probability is assigned to each content server/domain index pair to prevent the repeated selection of the content server having lowest round trip time thereby overloading that server's service capacity. The selection probabilities assigned to each content server effect a load balancing to prevent overloading. Another aspect of the invention involves collecting the distance and load information without incurring any overhead cost by passively collecting TCP information as it is transmitted from clients in communication with content servers in the course of normal communications.

Method of conducting a needle biopsy procedure

A vibration assisted needle device is disclosed for use in medical procedures such as needle aspiration biopsies. Reciprocation of the needle, such as a biopsy needle, eases the advance of the needle through tissue, penetration of the site of interest and the collection of sample at a site of interest. The device comprises a housing defining a chamber, a needle support external to the chamber for supporting a needle and a mechanism in the chamber for causing reciprocatory motion of the needle support. The needle support is preferably external to the housing. A syringe support may be connected to the housing for supporting a syringe. The reciprocatory mechanism may comprise means for converting rotational motion into reciprocating motion, such as a bearing or a rotor with a circumferential, angled groove on its surface, coupled to the needle support. The bearing or the rotor may be driven by a rotational motor, preferably located outside of the housing, or by a hydraulically driven turbine within the housing. Alternatively, the reciprocatory mechanism means may comprise a stationary solenoid and a movable solenoid for being coupled to the needle. Preferably, a second stationary solenoid is provided and the moving solenoid is between the two stationary solenoids. Energization of the stationary solenoid or solenoids by an alternating current for example, and energization of the movable solenoid by a direct current, or vice versa, attracts and repulses the movable solenoid, causing reciprocation of the needle. Methods and systems using the vibration assisted needle device are also disclosed.

Automatic rainwater collecting and sampling device

The invention discloses a method of implementing an automatic control and storage device used for collection of natural rainwater or rainfall runoff, relating to the fields of environmental protection and water supply and drainage work. According to the invention, by a single-chip microcomputer control device, parameters such as rainfall, rainfall time or flow are taken as trigger conditions, rainwater of different characteristic stages in a rainwater collector can be stored into different independent sampling bottles by automatic control. The rainwater collector is connected with a submersible pump to collect the rainfall runoff, and also connected with a rainwater receiving funnel to collect the natural rainwater. A distributor on the rainwater collector can automatically fill the rainwater in the rainwater collector. The device has the characteristics that firstly, the device is suitable for the fields and occasions without an alternating current power source, remote transmission of data can be automatically controlled, and a possibility of unattended automatic collection of rainwater sample in the fields at night can be achieved; secondly, the rainwater of different stages can be automatically collected according to the given rainfall or time, and the device is suitable for monitoring the change of water quality of the rainwater along with factors such as rainfall and time; thirdly, rainwater under various conditions such as natural rainwater and rainfall runoff at different catchment areas can be collected.

Electromagnetic Surveying for Resistive or Conductive Bodies

A method of analysing electromagnetic survey data from an area of seafloor (6) that is thought or known to contain a conductive or resistive body, such as a subterranean hydrocarbon reservoir (12), is described. The method includes providing electric field data and magnetic field data, for example magnetic flux density, obtained by at least one receiver (25) from a horizontal electric dipole (HED) transmitter (22) and determining a vertical gradient in the electric field data. The vertical gradient in the electric field data and the magnetic field data are then combined to generate combined response data. The combined response data is compared with background data specific to the area being surveyed to obtain difference data sensitive to the presence of a subterranean hydrocarbon reservoir. Because the combined response data are relatively insensitive to the transverse electric (TE) mode component of the transmitted signal, the method allows hydrocarbon reservoirs to be detected in shallow water where the TE mode component interacting with the air would otherwise dominate. Furthermore, because there is no mixing between the TE and transverse magnetic (TM) modes in the combined response data, data from all possible transmitter and receiver orientations may be used. The background data may be provided by magneto-telluric surveying, controlled source electromagnetic surveying or from direct geophysical measurement.

Wet electro-core gas particulate separator

A gas separation apparatus combines the technologies of electrostatic precipitators and centrifugal particle separators into a single unit. At an inlet into the gas separation apparatus, a water spray is introduced into the gas stream. The water spray may include various chemical additives, typically selected to react with or neutralize the particulates as they are mixed with the water or for other benefit. The resulting water and particulate mixture, which is much more dense than air, is centrifugally separated and collected through a drain tube outlet. In addition to the centrifugal forces applied to the gas and water stream, an electrical field of magnitude sufficient to produce coronal discharge is also applied to a central electrode. The electric field is generated between the cylinder wall and the central electrode, to assist the centrifugal forces and thereby remove additional particulate beyond that ordinarily removed by a standard centrifugal separator. A vortex finder surrounds the central electrode and protects the electrode from undesirable exposure to water splashes or the like, while assisting with the centrifugal separation. The novel separation apparatus and technique offer particular synergy when applied to the effluent stream from a fossil-fuel electric power plant or other similar gas streams.

Method for obtaining spectrum-integrated time-varying target optical spectrum information and device thereof

The invention discloses a method for obtaining spectrum-integrated time-varying target optical spectrum information and a device thereof. The method specifically comprises the steps of: obtaining a current frame image of a scene; extracting candidate interest regions which comprises time-varying targets therein; respectively leading the each candidate interest region to be associated with each interest region obtained from the last frame; confirming the candidate interest regions which are successfully associated to be interest regions; assigning the identification of the interest regions to the identification of the last frame interest region which is successfully associated therewith; and obtaining optical spectrum data of the each interest region of the current image. The invention also designs a device for realizing the method, which comprises a main control unit, an imaging sensor, an optical spectrum sensor, an infrared spectroscopy lens, a tracking reflecting mirror and a tracking and scanning rotary table. The invention provides a data acquisition method for combining a wide imaging optical spectrum with a wide non-imaging optical spectrum; and compared with a normal method for acquiring optical spectrum data of the all regions of the whole scene, has fast reaction speed and low cost, is suitable for the intellectualized acquisition of the time-varying target optical spectrum data, and improves the cost-effectiveness ratio for acquiring the optical spectrum date.
