Hexylresorcinol is an organic compound with local anaesthetic, antiseptic, and anthelmintic properties. It is available for use topically on small skin infections, or as an ingredient in throat lozenges. It is marketed as S.T.37 by Numark Laboratories, Inc. (in a 0.1% solution) for oral pain relief and as an antiseptic. Sytheon Ltd., USA markets hexylresorcinol (trade named Synovea HR). Johnson & Johnson uses hexylresorcinol in its Neutrogena, Aveno, and RoC skincare products as an anti-aging cream. Hexylresorcinol has been used commercially by many cosmetic and personal care companies, such as Mary Kay, Clarins, Unilever, Murad, Arbonne, and many small and large companies.

The present invention relates to a composition comprising 4-hexylresorcinol (4-HR) as an active ingredient for prevention or treatment of a bone disease, and a formulation thereof. The composition comprising 4-hexylresorcinol (4-HR) as an active ingredient, or an ointment thereof was found to improve bone thickness, density, and strength and control bone remodeling by promoting the differentiation of osteoblasts and suppressing the proliferation and differentiation of osteoclasts in osteoporosis-induced animal models. Thus, the composition or ointment comprising 4-hexylresorcinol (4-HR) as an active ingredient can be provided as a therapeutic agent for bone diseases including bone fracture, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoporosis.

Application of 4-hexylresorcinol in prevention and treatment of cotton verticillium wilt
The invention provides application of 4-hexylresorcinol in prevention and treatment of cotton verticillium wilt, and belongs to the technical field of pesticides. The invention discloses a new application of 4HR in prevention and treatment of cotton verticillium wilt for the first time, and the 4HR is derived from a defense system of a plant. The 4HR has strong inhibitory activity on verticillium dahliae, the EC50 value is as low as 5.398 g / mL, and the potting control effect exceeds 73%. As a safe food additive, the 4HR is environment-friendly and low in residual risk. The 4HR also shows bacteriostatic activity on a plurality of other cotton pathogenic fungi, and has the potential of being developed into broad-spectrum biopesticide.
