If the user pauses the stylus in mid-air before lowering the stylus, and if the stylus remains within the hover zone, then upon touchdown the cursor may be moved to the projection of the location where the stylus was paused. Any action that my be taken in response to the touch down may be sent to the projection location as well. Also provided are cursor control zones. A dampening zone may be used to provide dampened cursor movement feedback in response to movement input provided by a pointing device. Also, a dead zone may be used to prohibit cursor movement in response to movement input provided by the pointing device.

System and method for reducing NOx emissions during transient conditions in a diesel fueled vehicle

The present invention is a dual-stage fuel injection strategy for compression ignition engines in which 15-40% of the fuel is injected into the combustion chamber no later than about −20 to −30 CA ATDC and as early as IVC. The rest of the fuel is then injected in one or more fuel pulses, none of which start before about −20 to −30 CA ATDC. The fuel injected early in the compression stroke forms a lean mixture that burns with low soot and low NOx emissions. The combustion of that fuel serves to increase in-cylinder temperature such that the ignition delay of subsequent fuel injection pulses is short. This mode is utilized when it is predicted that a NOx spike is imminent. Various other alternative methods for reducing NOx spikes are also disclosed such as specialized EGR systems that can provide EGR with low manifold vacuum.

Excessive round-hole shielded gate trench (SGT) MOSFET devices and manufacturing processes

This invention discloses an improved trenched metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) device that includes a trenched gate surrounded by a source region encompassed in a body region above a drain region disposed on a bottom surface of a substrate. The MOSFET cell further includes a shielded gate trench (SGT) structure below and insulated from the trenched gate. The SGT structure is formed substantially as a round hole having a lateral expansion extended beyond the trench gate and covered by a dielectric linen layer filled with a trenched gate material. The round hole is formed by an isotropic etch at the bottom of the trenched gate and is insulated from the trenched gate by an oxide insulation layer. The round hole has a lateral expansion beyond the trench walls and the lateral expansion serves as a vertical alignment landmark for controlling the depth of the trenched gate. The MOSFET device has a reduced gate to drain capacitance Cgd depending on the controllable depth of the trenched gate disposed above the SGT structure formed as a round hole below the trenched gate.

A battery charge / discharge control apparatus for a vehicle capable of driving an electric motor by a battery is provided. Temperature of the battery is detected, temperature history distribution of the battery after start of temperature detection is calculated, and a lifetime workload of the battery is calculated on the basis of this temperature history distribution of the battery. A permissible value of a workload increase rate indicating a workload to increase per unit distance is calculated on the basis of the lifetime workload of the battery and a travel distance of the vehicle. An actual workload increase rate of the battery is compared with the permissible value of the workload increase rate. In the case where the actual workload increase rate is larger than the permissible value of the workload increase rate, an output is restricted from the output of the battery restricted in a normal driving mode if necessary by a restricted value based upon a difference between the actual workload increase rate and the permissible value of the workload increase rate. This makes it possible to carry out lifetime prolonging control for the battery more accurately by setting up an appropriate charge / discharge permissible amount in accordance with temperature change of the battery in the past.

Method of electric field assisted deposition of films of nanoparticles

The present invention is directed to a method for depositing unpatterned or selectively patterned nanoparticle films of controlled thickness on the respective film deposition surface of each of a pair of electrodes. In the present method, a pair of electrodes, each having a conducting film deposition surface, are immersed in a non-conducting nonpolar solvent in which nanoparticles, each having ligands attached thereto, are suspended. A voltage is applied to the pair of electrodes thereby causing films of the nanoparticles to deposit on the respective film deposition surface of each of the pair of electrodes. The nanoparticle films formed by the present method may be unpatterned or they may be patterned by patterning the conducting film deposition surface of at least one electrode of the pair of electrodes. The nanoparticle films formed according to the method of the present invention are useful as layers in electronic devices.

Control of the output voltage, or any parameter, using components external to the IC may include coupling a resistor to the IC and measuring the actual resistance value of the resistor, and based on the measured value, selecting a nominal resistance value from a set of resistance values previously specified by the user. The output voltage, or parameter, may be generated according to the nominal resistance value instead of the actual resistance value, thereby reducing the error that may be incurred due the actual resistance value of the resistor not matching the expected nominal value of the resistor. The difference between each adjacent resistance value in the set of resistance values may be selected to be greater than the greatest measurement error that may be incurred during measuring the actual resistance value.

The invention is directed to a method for controlling delays in a cellular telecommunications network. The delay control method according to the invention is based on a hierarchical structure of delay controlling entities, which preferably communicate only with entities directly above or below them in the hierarchy. In the downlink direction, an entity receiving data, such as a base station or a splitting unit, sends a timing report to the entity sending the data if the data is received too early or too late, whereafter the sending entity may adjust the sending time of data. The same reporting and adjusting process may be repeated through all levels of the control hierarchy, resulting in a collective control of delays from the top of the hierarchy, for example from a RNC, to the bottom, for example to a base station. In the uplink direction, a higher level entity receiving data from a lower level entity may command the lower level entity to adjust the sending time, if the data is received too early or too late. When the same action is repeated in all levels of the hierarchy, a collective control of delays is achieved for the link between the lowest level, e.g. the base station, and the highest level, e.g. a RNC.
