System and method for locating line faults in a medium voltage network

This invention relates to a method and system for locating line faults in a medium voltage network (3). Heretofore, the known methods and systems provided relatively limited resolution of fault location. Typically, the fault location information was limited to a distance from the substation (5). In complex medium voltage networks with branching, these systems and methods are not ideal as faults could potentially be in a number of different locations, spread out over a large area. According to the present invention, line mounted sensors (23(a)-23(I) are positioned both upstream and downstream of each of the branch points (11 (a)-11 (e), 29(a)-29(b) and this enables a more accurate determination of the location of the fault in the medium voltage net-work. Furthermore, artificial neural networks are employed to improve detection and location of faults in the medium voltage net-work.

Bifurcated Stent With Variable Length Branches

A bifurcated stent includes a trunk portion and first and second branches. At least one of the branches includes a longitudinally extendable portion such that the branch can be extended from a first length up to second length. The longitudinally extendable portion may be formed of a plurality of cylindrical rings coupled to each other by a curved link, wherein pulling the branch straightens the curved link, thereby lengthening the branch. The longitudinally extendable portion may be formed by winding a portion of a continuous wire of the branch at a first pitch whereas the remainder of the branch is wound at a second pitch greater than the first pitch. Thus, when the branch is pulled, the pitch of the longitudinally extendable portion increases, thereby lengthening the branch. A method of deploying a stent with a longitudinally extendable portion is also disclosed.

Compatible linear and branched ethylenic polymers and foams therefrom

An expanded cellular ethylenic polymer product is provided from an irradiated, noncross-linked linear ethylenic polymer. Linear ethylenic polymers can be irradiated at ambient conditions sufficient to introduce branching in the polymer in the absence of detectable cross-linking as indicated by the absence of gels. The irradiated linear ethylenic polymer is compatible with highly branched low density polyethylene and, when mixed therewith, produces a resin having a single broad based melting temperature range as determined by direct scanning calorimetry, which indicates that the polymers in the mixture have similar crystallization behavior suitable for producing low density foams by extrusion foaming. The linear polymers can be obtained from recycled shrink wrap film. Low densities of from 0.7 to less than 4 pcf can be achieved. The foams typically have improved tear resistance as compared to previous products prepared from low density polyethylene, at comparable low densities.
