The inorganic carbonate particles are precipitated calcium carbonate, CaCO,; calcium hydroxide, Ca(OH)2; magnesium hydroxide, Mg(OH)2; calcium magnesium carbonate, CaMg(COa)2; or a combination thereof obtained from a water softening process. The topical skin composition is a skin desiccant that is effective for treating skin conditions in humans and animals such as wounds, blisters, bums, insect bites, sunburns, rashes, acne, and eczema. The composition does not include silica products, but instead includes active inorganic carbonate, in some cases, from spent lime while providing additional minerals and nutrients for skin health.
