A vehicle control system and method includes structure and steps for capturing an image of a front seat of the vehicle and outputting image data corresponding thereto. A processor is provided which receives the image data output form the imaging device, compares the received image data with stored image data, and outputs a vehicle equipment control signal based on the comparison. Preferably, the vehicle equipment control signal controls one or more of airbag activation, mirror reflectance, vehicle lights activation, and vehicle intruder alarms. Preferably, the imaging device comprises a single chip camera disposed adjacent the vehicle rearview mirror.

A power management system for a microcontroller. The power management system includes a power management state machine for controlling a power mode of a central processing unit (CPU) and each subsystem within the microcontroller. Each microcontroller subsystem is connected to the system through a configurable peripheral interface (FPI). Each FPI includes a software configuration register (SFR) that can be configured by an operating system or application program. The SFR for the various FPIs can be preconfigured to allow the response to each of the power modes of the power management state machine to be independently controlled for each subsystem.

An apparatus for tracking an object or measuring the range of an object comprises a beam generator for generating first and second beams of energy and projecting the first and second beams towards a target surface whose distance from the apparatus is to be measured, a receiver for receiving energy from the first and second beams reflected from the target surface and for projecting beam energy reflected from the first beam onto a detector for detecting the position of the first beam energy. The position is dependent on the angle between the incident first beam and reflected first beam energy at the target surface, and thereby on the distance between the apparatus and the position from which the first beam is reflected from the surface. A second detector is provided for receiving second beam energy reflected from the target surface for measuring the range of the target by time of flight.

Array Stimulator

An array stimulator has a plurality of electrodes in an array (22), the electrodes forming a plurality of electrode pairs, and a signal generator (18) for generating signals to the electrodes so as to generate electrical pulse in a patient to which the stimulator has been applied either transcutaneously or by implantation. Those electrical pulses form a composite pulse in the patient which stimulates the nervous system of the patient. The composite pulse has a duration between 4 μs and 1500 μs and a maximum voltage between 2V and 50V when the stimulator is implanted, and 15V to 500V when applied transcutaneously. The electrical pulses themselves are significantly shorter duration than the composite pulse, so they stimulate the nervous system of the patient much less than the composite pulse or not at all.

The AMB includes user accessible registers that can be programmed to carefully control the edge placement (or phase) of signals generated from the AMB to multiple DRAMs on the module. This control of edge placement, which may be performed independently for each group of signals: clock (CLK, CLK#), command (RAS, CAS, WE), address (including bank address), data (DQ) and data strobe (DQS), provides 360 degrees of control (or one period). This means that any group of signals can be moved independently by one complete period relatively to any other group.

Vehicle steerability and stability control via independent wheel torque control

An independent wheel torque control algorithm is disclosed for controlling motor torques applied to individual electric motors coupled to vehicle wheels in an electric vehicle. In a first range of vehicle states, vehicle steerability is favored so that the operator of the vehicle suffers little or no longitudinal propulsion loss while steering is enhanced. In a second range of vehicle states, vehicle stability is favored. According to embodiments of the disclosure, a desired yaw moment is computed and then may be reduced in magnitude due to system limitations, electrical or friction limits, which prevents the desired yaw moment from being fully realized.

A system and method for controlling a conversion frequency of a hysteretic mode voltage converter. A digital control loop comprises a timing measure unit having a first input coupled to a reference clock and a second input coupled to a clock based on a switching of the switching of the converter, and an on time adjust unit coupled to the timing measure unit. The timing measure unit counts a number of clock ticks of a clock signal provided by the clock occurring during a period of time specified by a number of clock ticks of a reference clock signal provided by the reference clock. The on time adjust unit adjusts an on time control signal based on the count of the number of clock ticks of the clock signal to alter a frequency of the switching.

Desiccant air conditioning methods and systems

A desiccant air conditioning system for treating an air stream entering a building space, including a conditioner configured to expose the air stream to a liquid desiccant such that the liquid desiccant dehumidifies the air stream in the warm weather operation mode and humidifies the air stream in the cold weather operation mode. The conditioner includes multiple plate structures arranged in a vertical orientation and spaced apart to permit the air stream to flow between the plate structures. Each plate structure includes a passage through which a heat transfer fluid can flow. Each plate structure also has at least one surface across which the liquid desiccant can flow. The system includes a regenerator connected to the conditioner for causing the liquid desiccant to desorb water in the warm weather operation mode and to absorb water in the cold weather operation mode from a return air stream.
