Power management and control for a microcontroller

A power management system for a microcontroller. The power management system includes a power management state machine for controlling a power mode of a central processing unit (CPU) and each subsystem within the microcontroller. Each microcontroller subsystem is connected to the system through a configurable peripheral interface (FPI). Each FPI includes a software configuration register (SFR) that can be configured by an operating system or application program. The SFR for the various FPIs can be preconfigured to allow the response to each of the power modes of the power management state machine to be independently controlled for each subsystem.

Apparatus and method for tracking an object

An apparatus for tracking an object or measuring the range of an object comprises a beam generator for generating first and second beams of energy and projecting the first and second beams towards a target surface whose distance from the apparatus is to be measured, a receiver for receiving energy from the first and second beams reflected from the target surface and for projecting beam energy reflected from the first beam onto a detector for detecting the position of the first beam energy. The position is dependent on the angle between the incident first beam and reflected first beam energy at the target surface, and thereby on the distance between the apparatus and the position from which the first beam is reflected from the surface. A second detector is provided for receiving second beam energy reflected from the target surface for measuring the range of the target by time of flight.

Array Stimulator

An array stimulator has a plurality of electrodes in an array (22), the electrodes forming a plurality of electrode pairs, and a signal generator (18) for generating signals to the electrodes so as to generate electrical pulse in a patient to which the stimulator has been applied either transcutaneously or by implantation. Those electrical pulses form a composite pulse in the patient which stimulates the nervous system of the patient. The composite pulse has a duration between 4 μs and 1500 μs and a maximum voltage between 2V and 50V when the stimulator is implanted, and 15V to 500V when applied transcutaneously. The electrical pulses themselves are significantly shorter duration than the composite pulse, so they stimulate the nervous system of the patient much less than the composite pulse or not at all.

Polyphase inductive power transfer system with individual control of phases

The present invention provides a polyphase inductive power transfer (IPT) system comprising a primary power supply comprising a plurality of primary conductors, the primary conductors being individually selectively operable to provide or receive a magnetic field for inductive power transfer; and at least one pick-up comprising one or more pick-up conductors, the one or more pick-up conductors each being individually selectively operable to magnetically couple with a primary conductor to control power transfer between the primary power supply and a load coupled or coupleable with the respective pick-up. The polyphase primary power supply may be used to power a plurality of single-phase pick-ups, one or more polyphase pick-ups, or a combination thereof. Also disclosed are polyphase primary and secondary converters for use in such a system.

Vehicle steerability and stability control via independent wheel torque control

An independent wheel torque control algorithm is disclosed for controlling motor torques applied to individual electric motors coupled to vehicle wheels in an electric vehicle. In a first range of vehicle states, vehicle steerability is favored so that the operator of the vehicle suffers little or no longitudinal propulsion loss while steering is enhanced. In a second range of vehicle states, vehicle stability is favored. According to embodiments of the disclosure, a desired yaw moment is computed and then may be reduced in magnitude due to system limitations, electrical or friction limits, which prevents the desired yaw moment from being fully realized.

Liquid crystal display device and electronic device

To provide a liquid crystal display device which can perform image display in both modes: a reflective mode where external light is used as an illumination light source; and a transmissive mode where a backlight is used. In one pixel, a region where incident light through a liquid crystal layer is reflected to perform display (reflective region) and a region through which light from the backlight passes to perform display (transmissive region) are provided, and image display can be performed in both modes: the reflective mode where external light is used as an illumination light source; and the transmissive mode where the backlight is used as an illumination light source. In addition, two transistors connected to respective pixel electrode layers are provided in one pixel, and the two transistors are separately operated, whereby display of the reflective region and display of the transmissive region can be controlled independently.

Tractor with improved valve system

A hydraulically powered tractor adapted for advancement through a borehole including an elongate body, aft and forward gripper assemblies, and a valve control assembly housed within the elongate body. The aft and forward gripper assemblies are adapted for selective engagement with the inner surface of the borehole. The valve control assembly includes a gripper control valve for directing pressurized fluid to the aft and forward gripper assemblies. The valve control assembly also includes a propulsion control valve for directing fluid to an aft or forward power chamber for advancing the body relative to the actuated gripper assembly. Aft and forward mechanically actuated valves may be provided for controlling the position of the gripper control valve by detecting and signaling when the body has completed an advancement stroke relative to an actuated gripper assembly. Aft and forward sequence valves may be provided for controlling the propulsion control valve by detecting when the gripper assemblies become fully actuated. Furthermore, a pressure relief valve is preferably provided along an input supply line for limiting the pressure of the fluid entering the valve control assembly.

A motorized pump is disclosed that includes a flexible diaphragm fitting within a rigid member, a motor drive mechanism for drawing a puller member attached to the diaphragm away from the rigid member to create a space between the diaphragm and the rigid member and form a negative pressure region within that space, and an outlet communicating with the negative pressure region. In one embodiment, the pump provides a negative pressure in a single chamber which can be used to operate one or two breast shield assembles. In another embodiment, the pump is particularly adapted for double-pumping and provides two chambers which generate vacuum.

Superlens and a method for making the same

A superlens for controlling the size and the phase of an electromagnetic beam that passes through it, and a method for independently controlling the horizontal and vertical focusing of the electromagnetic beam using the superlens is provided. The superlens comprises a vertically GRIN multi-layer structure with one or more horizontally curved sidewalls. The vertical focusing is controlled by varying the longitudinal thickness of the multi-layer structure. The horizontal focusing is controlled by varying the profile and the radius of curvature of the horizontally curved sidewalls. Varying the thickness and radius of curvature is done by etching. Also provided is a method for making the superlens.

Laser system and method for generation of a pulse sequence with controllable parameters and computer program product

A laser system for generating at least one pulse and / or pulse sequence(s) of pulses having at least one specified property, such as pulse energy, duration, peak intensity, pulse form and / or timing includes an amplifying cavity. The amplification process is monitored in the amplifying cavity to obtain data about at least one property of the pulse sequence and / or the single pulse(s). The system also compares the obtained data with reference data and it controls at least one switching means for inputting, outputting and / or retaining the pulse(s) in the amplifying cavity such that at least one property of the pulse sequences and / or the pulses at an output of the laser system has substantially a specified value.
