The initial coulomb efficiency ofthe nickel-containing cathode material of the lithium ion battery is increased by partially separating lithium ions in a nickel-containing positive plate in advance through charge/discharge, and adjusting the initial charge gram volume of the nickel-containing cathode material by partially separating out lithium ions, without reducing the initial reversible discharge gram volume of the cathode material; in design of a whole battery, the initial coulomb efficiency of the cathode material in the lithium ion whole battery is made the same as the initial coulomb efficiency of a corresponding anodematerial, so as to reduce the excessive amplitude of the anode material and increase the energy density of the whole battery. The method provided by the invention has the following beneficial effects: by partially separating lithium ions in the nickel-containing positive plate in advance through charge/discharge, the initial coulomb efficiency of the cathode material is increased; the initial coulomb efficiency of the nickel-containing cathode material can be adjusted as required so as to obtain optimal initial efficiency matching when designing the whole battery is designed throughwith anodematerial matching.
