Welan gum is an exopolysaccharide used as a rheology modifier in industrial applications such as cement manufacturing. It is produced by fermentation of sugar by bacteria of the genus Alcaligenes. The molecule consists of repeating tetrasaccharide units with single branches of L-mannose or L-rhamnose. In solution, the gum exhibits viscosity retention at elevated temperature, and is stable in a wide pH range, in the presence of calcium ion, and with high concentration of glycols.

The invention provides the application of welan gum for increasing the recovery ratio in ultrahigh temperature oil reservoir oil displacement. The application comprises the steps that as for the long-time water-driving ultrahigh temperature high-water-content oil reservoir, a 0.1-0.4% welan gum aqueous solution is injected continuously at the speed of 1 mL/min, and the volume of the welan gum aqueous solution is 0.2-2 times that of pores of the oil reservoir. An oil displacing agent, namely the welan gum, is added into oil displacing fluid, a high-permeability area can be selectively sealed, and the permeability of the section of the oil reservoir is adjusted and controlled, so that the oil displacing fluid enters a low-permeability area easily, and high production and stable production of crude oil are achieved. Meanwhile, the welan gum can bear the temperature as high as 140 DEG C, and accordingly the temperature resistance advantage and excellent rheological property of the welan gum make the welan gum the oil displacing agent suitable for the ultrahigh temperature oil reservoir. It is proved through experiments that the effect that the oil displacement efficiency is improved by 6-12% can be achieved, and the technical bottleneck that the ultrahigh temperature oil reservoir is in short of an effective oil displacing agent is solved.
