Devices and methods to heat and cool human beings, including inducing and maintaining hypothermia in human patients. Methods include inducing hypothermia to treat ischemic events, including heart attack and stroke, to limit damage caused by the ischemic event. Methods can include: using the lungs for heat exchange; using cooled gases for ventilation; using helium in the ventilation gas mixture, using medications to control reflex heat production; and injecting a perfluorocarbon mist into the gas stream to increase the cooling rate. The high thermal conductivity and diffusivity of helium results in greater inspired gas temperature equalization toward body temperature. Due to the latent heat of vaporization, addition of even small quantity of phase-change perfluorocarbon dramatically increases the heat carrying capacity of the respiratory gases. Hypothermia may be terminated by discontinuing the medications and warming the patient using a warmed helium-oxygen mixture.

A drying expiratory limb of a breathing circuit is provided that is configured to increase or optimize drying of a gas to reduce or prevent condensation. The drying expiratory limb can include a wall that is at least partly made of a breathable material configured to allow transmission of water vapor but substantially prevent transmission of liquid water. The wall includes first and second openings in the wall, the openings respectively configured to receive a gas at a first temperature and a first relative humidity and to allow the gas to exit having a second temperature and a second relative humidity. The drying expiratory limb can be configured to tailor the temperature drop of the gas along the wall to maintain a relative humidity within a targeted range and/or to maintain the gas temperature above its dew point temperature.

The ECU is configured to obtain specific information as to whether or not the charging stand is provided with a cooling mechanism for cooling the connector and the inlet. The ECU is configured to set the maximum allowable current to be higher when the charging stand is provided with the cooling mechanism than when the charging stand is not provided with the cooling mechanism.

A humidification apparatus has an inspiratory tube that may extend to a patient interface. The inspiratory tube may have a reduced length. A thermal insulation component may insulate at least a portion of the inspiratory tube. As a result, less of the inspiratory tube may be exposed to the surrounding ambient environment, which may reduce condensate formation within the inspiratory tube and heat loss to the surrounding ambient environment. For example, the composition for making the dielectric layer may be made into a paste or ink and then printed as a paste or ink, or applied with some other equivalent method, such as a lamination technique. A high voltage switch contact structure capable of interrupting high voltage, high current AC and DC circuits. The contact structure confines the arc created when contacts open to the thin area between two insulating surfaces in intimate contact. This forces the arc into the shape of a thin sheet which loses heat energy far more rapidly than an arc column having a circular cross-section. In one embodiment the invention is a hand guard, comprising: a generally hollow cylindrical body having a rail securing top surface; a top Picatinny rail securable to the rail securing top surface. The top rail is in slidable engagement with the rail securing top surface such that the top Picatinny rail is removable from the top surface. The generally hollow cylindrical body is populated with vent holes. In another embodiment an upper receiver is provided, the upper receiver includes a front face located at a front end of the upper receiver, the upper receiver having a Picatinny rail atop thereof, the Picatinny rail having a last rail located at a front end of the Picatinny rail, the last rail is aligned with the front face. In another embodiment the hand guard has a fixed Picatinny rail atop thereof. At least one plug is optionally provided for fitting into vent holes.

The present invention discloses a method and system for insulating wells wherever heat transfer is a problem, the method comprising using dual concentric vacuum insulated tubing layers, preferably with the joints staggered with respect to one another. The inventive warmer apparatus comprises a holding unit, enclosed on four sides, but open at the top to allow restaurants and kitchen operators easy access to food held in it. Food in the apparatus is exposed to radiant heat generated by a heated bottom surface and to hot convection air. Part of the convection air is used to create an air curtain to improve heat loss characteristics and protect from the environment. The apparatus uses a combination of radiant heat, convection air and a warm air curtain to keep food products hot and crisp. The air curtain provides additional food protection. The warmer apparatus conditions food to attain a noncooking biologically safe temperature and to retain its freshly cooked texture and internal moisture for at least twenty minutes. This allows restaurants to serve such food items longer to its customers, allowing more efficient batch cooking and significantly reducing food waste.

An irrigated ablation catheter provides improved distribution of irrigation fluid across its tip electrode surface resulting in improved cooling and flushing of blood and proteins from the tip region. An axially directed flow of irrigation provides improved heat transfer from the tip electrode to the irrigation fluid allowing for a cooler tip electrode and larger lesions. The irrigation fluid is introduced to the catheter with improved flow by means of a standard constant flow pump. A lumen or tube within a shaft of the catheter transfers the irrigation fluid to a proximal end of the tip electrode where it exits the catheter via a flow directing member mounted on the tip electrode. In one embodiment, the flow directing member is a thin walled tube that surrounds the proximal end of the tip electrode and directs the irrigation fluid distally along an outer surface of the tip electrode.

A noise filter in which the resonance of noise can be prevented, which is small in size and inexpensive, and is useful especially in an electronic device of which the signal frequency exceeds 100 MHz. In the noise filter, ground conductors are arranged on the outermost layers of a laminate formed by lamination of magnetic sheets and firing thereof. Transmission lines and ground conductors are alternately arranged with the magnetic sheets being sandwiched between them, respectively. Signal electrodes connected to the transmission lines and ground electrodes connected to the ground conductors are formed on the outer surface of the laminate. Thus, a signal is transmitted through the transmission lines while the ground conductors are grounded, and therefore, high frequency noise can be attenuated by utilization of heat loss caused by the magnetic sheets.
