Controlling the spread of interests and content in a content centric network

One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for controlling the spread of interests and content in a content centric network (CCN). During operation, the system maintains a routing policy for content data. The system also receives a packet associated with a piece of content or an interest for the content. Next, the system determines that the structured name included in the packet is within the namespace specified in the routing policy. The system further determines that the packet satisfies the condition in the routing policy. Subsequently, the system routes the packet based on in part the action corresponding to the condition as specified in the routing policy.

Optimal link scheduling for multiple links

Methods, apparatus and computer program products are provided for distributing communication packets over multiple concurrent parallel links between a first node and a second node in a communication network based upon link quality information for the links. By utilizing link quality information from the links, the rate at which packets are provided to the links may be made proportional to the quality of the link, and thus, the link's ability to transmit the packet. The rate at which packets are provided to links may be reduced when error rates on a link exceed a specified threshold and eliminated when error rates exceed a higher threshold. Alternatively, timing delays from errors on a link may be used to determine a delay factor for a link and packets scheduled to the links based on the link with the lowest delay. The present invention is particularly useful in High Performance Routing Multilink Transmission Groups.

Method and apparatus for facilitating efficient flow control for multicast transmissions

One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that facilitates efficient flow control for data transmissions between a sender and a plurality of receivers. The system operates by sending a stream of packets from the sender to the plurality of receivers, wherein the packets include information specifying a sampling window for the stream of packets. The sender subsequently receives feedback information from the plurality of receivers, wherein a receiver sends feedback information to the sender if a congestion condition occurs at the receiver while receiving packets within the sampling window. In response to the feedback information, the sender adjusts a rate of transmission for the stream of packets. In one embodiment of the present invention, the feedback information from the receivers is aggregated at intermediate nodes prior to reaching the sender in order to eliminate redundant feedback information. In one embodiment of the present invention, the sender communicates with the plurality of receivers through a tree of nodes, wherein the sender is a root node of the tree.

Flow control in network devices

Methods and apparatus are provided for controlling flow rates of a plurality of data packet flows into a queue 4 corresponding to a resource 3 of a network device 1. The flows comprise a set 7 of non-responsive flows, and a set 8 of other flows which may comprise responsive flows and / or flows whose responsiveness is unknown. The flow rates are managed in accordance with a queue management scheme such that adjustments are made to each flow rate in dependence on excess bandwidth in the resource, the amounts of the adjustments being dependent on one or more adjustment parameters for each flow. An error signal is generated based on the deviation from a desired allocation ratio of the ratio of the total flow rates into the queue 4 for the sets of flows 7, 8. At least one adjustment parameter for at least one flow is then varied in dependence on the error signal in such a manner as to reduce the aforementioned deviation. A closed-loop control scheme thus operates in conjunction with the underlying queue management scheme to promote fair bandwidth allocation even in the presence of a mix of responsive and non-responsive flows.
