The catalyst is composed of 0.5-5wt% of PdO, 1-10wt% of BaCO3 and 85-98.5wt% of Al2O3, wherein a molar ratio of Al2O3 to BaCO3 is 16.5 to 190.7; a molar ratio of BaCO3 / Al2O3 to PdO is 7.8 to 81.4; a molar ratio of BaCO3 to PdO is 1.25. The preparation method comprises the following steps: (1) dipping a Ba precursor into an Al2O3 material, and performing air roasting to form a BaCO3 / Al2O3 carrier; (2) dipping a Pd precursor onto the carrier prepared in the step (1),performing air drying and roasting, so as to obtain the PdO / BaCO3 / Al2O3 water-resistant high-temperature-resistant methane oxidation catalyst. The methane oxidation catalyst prepared by the method disclosed by the invention has excellent methane catalytic activity and stability in a water-containing atmosphere and a high-temperature environment. The catalyst is applicable to tail gas after-treatment of gas-fueled vehicles and gasoline cars, and can also be used for tail gas purification of burners taking natural gas, coal gas and liquefied petroleum gas as fuel.
