The present invention relates to a gas generator which is a core component of an inflator used for expanding an airbag for alleviating the impact on a passenger occuring during a vehicle collision, and provides the gas generator capable of generating a high combustion rate and a large quantity of gas. The present invention provides a gas generator having a combustion rate of 20 mm / sec or higher, a generated gas amount of 33 moles / kg or higher and a combustion temperature of 2300 K or lower by using: copper diamine dinitrate (CDD) as a principal oxidizing agent; basic copper nitrate (BCN) as an auxiliary oxidizing agent; guanidine nitrate (GN) as a principal fuel; 5-aminotetrazole (5-AT) as a combustion-rate-increasing fuel; metal oxide and a combustible catalyst as catalysts; and an additive. Also, the internal pressure of the inflator manufactured by using the gas generator is reduced to 100 bar, and thus the inflator is manufactured so as to weigh 250g which is a remarkable reduction in comparison with 440g of existing product A and 330g of existing product B.

The invention relates to a method for testing the particle size and the particle size distribution of 5-aminotetrazole, wherein the particle size and the particle size distribution of an organic synthesis intermediate 5-aminotetrazole are tested by a wet laser diffraction method. According to the method, 5-AT particle size test is performed by using a trichloromethane solution containing 0.2-0.4%of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate and 0.1-0.2% of ethylphenyl polyethylene glycol as a dispersion system at an ultrasonic dispersion time of 5-10 min. According to the present invention, the relativestandard deviation of the multiple median particle size measurement results is not more than 6%, the precision of the method is good, and the wet laser diffraction method for testing the particle sizeof 5-AT has good applicability and can be used for the test of the particle size of 5-AT so as to be used for the quality control of the product.
