A process of making standard feed based on local ingredients for laboratory rats and mice is disclosed, which includes the following stages: a) preparing ingredients in the form of 290 grams of
corn flour, 90 grams of
fish meal, 50 grams of
bran or fine rice
bran, 40 grams of roasted soybeans, 15 grams of
bone meal or
dolomite, 5 grams of
vegetable oil, 5 grams of vitamins or premix, and 5 grams of dried vegetables to obtain a total mixture of 500 grams; b) mixing
corn flour,
fish meal,
bran or fine rice bran, roasted soybeans,
bone meal or
dolomite, vitamins or premix, and dried vegetables until homogeneous; c) taking 30 grams of the mixture from step b), then mixing it with 5 grams of
vegetable oil until evenly distributed; d) mixing the results of step c) again into the remaining mixture from step b) and stirring until homogeneous; e) adding 250 mL of
distilled water gradually while stirring until a smooth dough is formed; f)
steaming the dough for about 10 minutes;g) let the mixture rest for about 3–5 minutes, then mold it into
pellets; and h) dry the
pellets at a temperature of about 60°C for about 3 hours. This process produces pellet-shaped feed with a balanced
nutritional composition, compact and homogeneous texture, low
water content, and stability during storage so that it is suitable for use as standard feed for maintaining laboratory rats and mice in research, preclinical testing, and biomedical science development;
