The invention relates to a computer-implemented method for designing or redesigning a device (1800), the device being a device for separating a substance mixture, the method comprising:-receiving (162) a set of data points (21), each data point being a simulation result of a state of the device configured for separating a substance mixture; -displaying (164) a graphical user interface, said interface comprising limited input-GUI elements (LE-GUI elements), said LE-GUI elements enabling a user to enter values of a parameter, where said GUI is configured to limit the values that the user can enter via each LE-GUI element to a range of values covered by the values assigned to the respective parameter in all of the received groups of data points,-displaying (164) a graphical user interface, said interface comprising limited input-GUI elements (LE-GUI elements), said GUI being configured to limit the values that the user can enter via each LE-GUI element to a range of values covered by the values assigned to the respective parameter in all of the received groups of data points; -identifying (166) a set of best fit parameter values from parameter values entered by the user via the LE-GUI elements, the best fit parameter values representing a desired device design with respect to at least one optimization criterion; and-displaying (168) the identified set of parameter values or a graphical representation thereof via a display device.
